Howdy all, :wavey:

I'm new at Civ and would appreciate any help with the Mac civ3editor. Could someone please tell me if it's possible to assign a specific civ to a starting point? Also, is it possible to place cities (not settlers) on the map? I just can't seem to figure it out. Finally, is there an option for switching the year?(instead of having 4000BC for your game start) thanks much

Hi, welcome :wavey:

I'm no editor expert, but I think the answers to all your questions are "no" :( The civ placement option was introduced in version 1.29, and the editor is only compatible with 1.21. I've no idea why there's a Starting Location overlay option as I don't think it does anything. I've never seen a starting year option or a city placement facility in the editor.

Bummer, oh well, :( thanks for the answer.
Also, I can't see the build, fortify, disband etc. options in the game after I create a map. Do you know what the problem is? What am I doing wrong?
Thanks with all your help.

Is this for a settler?

It sounds like the unit have been corrupted in the editor. Check the unit abilities flags in the editor. I've seen it forget the settings for the first unit, which is the settler I think. There was a recent sequence of posts somewhere around here describing how to ensure that the editor saves all the data correctly.

Unfortunately there is a bug in the editor that sometimes makes it 'forget' parts of the editable rules, meaning that it's possible you don't see the build, fortify, disband etc. options because their entries are missing or incomplete in the scenario file. You might have to reconstruct them from a working version.
If I remember correctly this bug was never corrected because it couldn't be reproduced reliably. :(
Making changes to just one category at a time (e.g. only improvements, only units...) then saving after that worked for me (but is real pain in the ***).
As I already said, I don't know a way to reproduce this bug. At one time I spent about a week trying to reproduce it by making a lot of changes and never lost any data, another time I lost the settler entry after editing just two other things. If you ask me it basically seems to depend on how lucky you are.
If you just want to create a map, you should be save if you don't touch any rules, but that's just a guess.

Edit: Doh! Posting too slow as usual...

ok... I did what you said Trixter and everything seems to work ok. Once again, thanks so much. :)

I think there is a way to place civs. In the player properties, select your civs in the order you want, player 1, player 2, player 3, etc...When you place the civ location remember your list, and place them in that order. But remember that the first player is always you. If you change the player when you begin the game,I'm not sure what happens.

It's worked for me. But not sure of its reliability. I'll keep testing it and let you know.
