Mac Crashes... What's the bug?

I have read about similar problems, but no solutions.... Mine goes something like this....
I am playing Civ III with the updated 1.21 beta patch, on a G3 Pismo with over 500 mb of RAM. My computer keeps crashing with a type 1 error. It only seems to be a problem after I get "Nationalism" and start incorporating riflemen. Never a problem in the early games... just towards the end. I have seen similar problems posted... and I think they may all be related somehow... any suggestions?

It' happens to me, too.
And even worse since sometimes the autosave doesn't save anymore!

"Solutions" (some are kind of voodoo, at least one does something):

- Load older save and try again (10 to 20 turns) and save often.
- Allocate more memory
- Don't restart the computer but start civ again, worked 2 times well for me after an evening where the game crashed all the time!
- Shutdown the computer and leave him for some seconds so that all memory reservations in the RAM gets deleted (not only restart)
- Changing your gameplay might help also (eg Relocate units, make trades usw.)
- fetch a pinacolada and sit into the sun, doesn't help for Civ but for you
I completely lost one game after 15h of gameplay once....

Question --- Do you have old save games in your save-folder? I was having some unusual crashes, and posted the thread "Game Freezes/Crashes & Unexplainable Fix," that were fixed when I removed all my old game saves.

Forum poster gfeier confirmed the existence of this "bug." He recommended setting up another folder for interesting saves. I did, and it worked for me.

There are a couple of fixes in 1.21g that may apply. If you're having trouble, use 1.17g or wait for 1.21g.

Sounds like it may be related to MacOS 9. I've not had the problem with OS X.

I'm playing under OS9.2.
Lately I tried ou some PC mods (snoopy's) and my worldmap was allways fully visible from the start!
So I deletet everything about Civ and reinstalled including 1.21f beta.

Didn't help a lot though!

I can start the game without cd (I like this one though)

Music preferences dont get saved anymore (as pre 1.17)

Game settings don't get saved anymore! The settings of the first window stay, but the second one always changed!

I wanted persians/deity and it didn't accept. In half of the games I started I had the first civ on the list and chieftain
That's annoying if you try searching for a good starting possition...
