The dominance of the PC is evident around me every day. It is what businesses use (Okay not the video editing business). It is what they will continue to use. I am in a room with hundreds of computers, and they are all PCs. Above and below me are hundreds more, and this isn't the only room in the building.

The University I teach at doesn't even have macs.

The Library system for my city of over 1 million uses PC's.

I don't even see a Mac 360 days out of the year.

Lets face it, the vast majority of die hard computer people use and love PCs. You may convince some of the people out there that macs are better by giving them to the schools. You get a few more by making them in different colors, and making them rounded. The problem is, those aren't the people making the decisions on which computer is going to be used in the world.

My first computer was a Mac, an old Performa 630, it worked like a charm except for the occasional freeze.
The problem was the compability issue, i could not play many games on it, and mac games are more expensive, so i eventually switched to Wind00ze PC, and i don't intend to start using macs again unless i have to.

I've seen a lot of people mention Mac's prowess in audio and video editing and the likes. Why does the Mac excel at this?

Someone (a Mac fan) once told me that Mac was the Rolls Royce of computers, while PC was the General Motors (he actually said Lada but I think he was exaggerating a wee bit). Any truth to this?

Man, alot of you PC users really hate Macs!

I suppose its fear of the unknown, that which you cannot understand. Or maybe its just like the short guy who hates anyone taller. Either way, get over it, theres no need to be uncivil, you got the mob (meaning the majority) in your corner. Macintosh is a superior machine but you can rest assured it will never even slightly threaten the might of Microsoft or the views of the common computer user.

No, the hate from PC users toward Mac does come on the contrary from the too much known and too much understood.

Well, in all objectivity, what is the difference between a PC and a Mac ?
Windows is an inferior carbon copy of MacOS. Same design, same interface ; people say they see a lot of differences, but it's the same level of differences than between Netscape and IE.
The hardware of the Mac is directly took from the PC universe, except for the processor.

So what does fuel the hate between PC and Mac ?
Well, that's the Mac User.
This strange little thing is probably the most irritating thing computers ever created. It's second in arrogance and self-importance only to the Linux fan, but it does not have even the tiniest piece of computer knowledge that could make this stance bearable.
It's constantly bragging how his machine is faster, cleaner, better and more powerful than it's PC counterpart (be it true or false).

I had such things in my friend ring. They managed to disgust me about Mac forever before they stopped to pretend they had a playing machine and switched to PC.
And I encounter, from time to time, a new Mac User that refuel my disgust for Apple, or I just happen to hit the official Apple propaganda webpage (it seriously can't be given any other name ; it's such blatant lies, exagerations and twisting or reality that it can only be considered propaganda).

And here rest the Mac, a good machine killed by its defenders.

He he Narz, few people are amazingly rich in this world, few people are tolerant, few people drive a Rolls royce, few people have an exceptionnal IQ because few people have a working brain and few people own a Mac like you and me ;) But well, can you blame mother Nature for granting us superior privileges :D

Best machine I ever owned was an Acorn ARM RISC PC. Lightning fast. Wonderful architecture, great OS. Never heard of it?

No software. Wonderful programmers machine though.

For the last thirty years software has sold hardware. I use a PC because the software I want to use runs on it. End of story.

I don't see why you people think Macs are better for sound editing than PCs. With the right programs (ever heard of Cool Edit?), a PC can do excellent editing. As for video, I'll admit I don't know of any specific programs but they are probably out there somewhere.

I'm glad to see newfangle agrees with Rush Limbaugh about something. PC's for surfing, Mac for anything graphic intensive.

Tribalism. Man, this is sad on so many levels, yet it's the way the world works. Let me preface this by saying I use both. I've used 95 and 98, and now 2000 and NT at work. This is why I've bothered to invest in a Mac at home...

That attitude from WinTel victims is what actually drove a lot of Mac users into evangelizing the platform. Way, way back in DOS, when C: prompts made every sipdhit think he was a programmer, Mac users were bombarded with "Mac, huh? Well I use a real computer..." Meanwhile, the WinTel victims were wrapping themselves around the machine instead of using an interface that conformed to the personality using it.
Face it, you platform nerds, a computer is a machine -- and a Mac is, in fact, a PC. It just doesn't use the WinTel platform.
If we were all going to base our decisions on what's the most efficient tool for the sake of the task, we'd all be using the exact same thing. Take cars, for instance. We'd all be driving the same model Honda Civic hatchback (in primer gray) because it gets great milage, it can haul groceries, parts are everywhere, and nobody would be bothered by headlights in their rear-view. But lo and behold, one jerk decides to paint his Civic red and put covers over the seats because he spends so much time in his car that he's tired of looking at the same thing every day. Whoa.

Individuality.

That's basically where the Mac started. With an interface that conformed to the user instead of the other way around. Once the Mac had a following, it wasn't going anywhere. Was it a niche? Sure. Will it replace windows? Nope. And thank goodness. Keep the disgruntled virus writers in the WinTel world. Who cares if it has 10,000 games when 9,990 of them suck? I'm willing to shell out the extra $10 for the few that don't to be ported to my quaint, lil' platform.

You work for Microsoft, right? Propaganda? Ethically compromised Monopoly? Fraud? How about:
* Stung by Apple's switch campaign, they hired and faked the other way around.
http://news.com.com/2100-1001-961994.html?tag=fd_top_6
* In 1998, The Los Angeles Times reported that during its antitrust trials, Microsoft hired PR firms to flood newspapers with fake letters of support, bearing ordinary individuals' names but actually written by Microsoft PR staff. Payments were funneled through Microsoft's main PR agency so that the checks couldn't be traced.
* During the antitrust trial, Microsoft attempted to prove the inseparability of Windows and Internet Explorer by showing the judge a video. There was only one problem: The government's lawyer noticed that as the tape rolled on, the number of icons on the desktop kept changing. Microsoft sheepishly admitted to having spliced together footage from different computers to make its point.

Windows. Gosh, the word just makes your skin crawl, doesn't it? Especially the arrogant, conceited, elitist Windows users that support this backward platform.
...Oh well, I guess there are a whole lotta cockroaches per human, aren't there? Guess we should just hand the planet over to the cockroaches.

;) Okay, so maybe that's a little extreme considering we're talking about a freakin' information appliance. For just a moment, step above it, folks. Is it really worth all the ill-will tribalism, or are you one of those inbred imbeciles that has a Calvin sticker on your Chevy, p!ssing on a Ford logo?

Think about it.

Hmmm. . . Windows users hate MacOS, MacOS users hate Windows.

Why can't we all just get along?

Sorry. . . couldn't resist. :)

For me, I have experience in both Mac's and Windows. I have a hell of a lot more experience in Windows than Macs, but I consider myself knowledgeable enough in Macs to get what I need done.

I simply prefer Windows. To me, the Mac seems underpowered and slow. It's probably seems that way because the machine may have been older, but since I'm not all that familiar with Mac hardware I can't say for certain.

I was using Photoshop on Macs and then Windows, and I admit for some reason its better on the Mac. Everything in Photoshop looks better. I can't explain why.

I work with computers since 1977, so I really don't care about this little war.
Actually I'm working in a media studio editing image (Illustrator and Photoshop), audio (Sound Forge), 3d (3D studio, of course), and commercial films (AVID and Adobe Premiere). We have four Pentium III and three Pentium IV (PC) and two G3 and two G4 (Mac).
All of us works in the free machine (whatever). All of us vote for PC: price-performance relationship is far better.
And the only programs we can use in Mac are Adobe's (and in our chronometered tests PC far rules, even when compare G4 vs. PIII).

Macs are fine and good, but nothing is as satisfying as the gentle hum from the fan of a LINUX box. So I choose PC's cause you can put LINUX on em' !
