There was definitely something lacking in the classic Mac OSes, but OS X is a completely different animal.

Mac, definitely.

I assume the prexisting (to this post) 7 other votes are Linux, Unless I hear otherwise I will edit the poll acoordingly.

Windows XP Pro. Mac looks nice but I don't like to use it. I think they do things just to be different and not more efficient. Such as the 1 button mouse. Multi tasking in windows is much easier and faster. When I have 8 programs running on a Mac it gets really annoying. Linux to me is computing for the sake of computing. It was made for nerds like me under th guise that its for everyone so I can't say it is superior. I have experience with all 3 and Mac was my first.

Mac hardware is overpriced. Even Adobe has formally admited that pc's running windows are faster at running their programs. Recent test have shown that high end pc's outperform the Mac flagship system which they claimed was the fastest in the world and it was a dual processor system while the pc was a single processor system. Just imagine how it would have done against dual xeons. Mac isn't security minded, hackers just don't see it as a priority because of its low market share and its irrelevence when compared to Linux which is the better alternative.

Don't say that mac hardware is overpriced. If you go to the AppleStore, you can have an eMac for $799. If you have an educationnal discount, it's even less. And VA Tech said the one reason for buying 1 100 G5's from Apple is that it was cheaper than anyone else.

And the G5 was beaten in tests that were not optimised for the PPC architecture or Altivec, or for MacOS X. And the dual G5 beats a computer of its own price tag if you let all tests compile in Photoshop (which is not very altivec friendly). The one photoshop test where the G5 was under the P4 3.2 GHz was the one where a few of the subtests were "forgotten" becau they were judged "irrelevant".

Everyone knows apple cheated in that test using a prototype G5 with unreleased software and unreleased version of its OS while the Dell not even the fastest pc available was an untweaked shipping model. Did they mention Red Hat 9 was used in some of the tests and hyperthreading was turned of on all pentium chips. When they turned hyperthreading back on the G5 lost in those same tests. This was under Photoshop, After Effects, Illustrator and Premier. In short the tried to cheat. Now the recent test conducted actually included high and pc's from alienware, voodoo and Falcon NW using an Athlon 64, an Opteron and 3.2 P4. The test included a wide range of applications and games. The G5 came out in last place in almost all of the tests and first in none of them. The Alienware Aurora with the single chip Athlon 64 is much faster then the G5 and its cheaper and thats without an OS that supports 64 bit computing.

I was not referring to test made by a producting company (who would?) but of tests ran by individuals (as were posted at forums.appleinsider.com about a month ago) or independant web medias. In those tests (for the unified photoshop test, atleast), the G5 got it by a few seconds, and both the G5, the latest P4 of the time ant the best AMD of the time were within a very few seconds of each other.

I have yet to see anyone reliable claim a G5 system can outperform an Athlon 64 FX-51 system. None of the current tests are even close. And a G5 should be compared to a dual Xeon system. A G5 is a dual proc system that has a hard time keeping up with other single processor systems.

Linux but thats only to those who no how to use it otherwise thers no point:cool:

I can't stand windows. It constantly friks up. Especially this stupid worthless XP bullpoo... NEVER works correctly. Every time you have to go update directx, after installing, it somehow deletes itself. Then you have to restore the piece of s***. It really pisses me off. And, when my parents bought this piece of crap xp... They knew that I wanted to get more into programming, and what do you know! XP home edition doesn't support server scripting!!! All the more reason why xp is the crappiest os available. I would upgrade to XP Pro, but, it would probably still suck. It would just be and "upgraded" s*** machine:) I voted for the monkey. I wish Bill Gates could make an os that works.

Windows = crappy OS but capable of supporting a lot more games
MAC = Good OS but not nearly as many games

I work with both Mac and PC and must say I like the PC much better. at the early 90s the Mac had still the advantage, but nowadays both are good but PC is a LOT cheaper.

I have never had any of those problems. As a matter of fact I have had none of those problems with any recent Mac, Windows or Linux version I have used. Maybe your doing something wrong.
