MacBook Pro - how can I use external monitor?

I recently bought a 15" MacBook Pro, and I'm using it with a Dell 24" monitor. I have Civ 4 vanilla with the latest patch, 1.74. I would like to play Civ 4 on the second monitor, at a high resolution. However, everything I've tried has not worked too well:

- Holding the Command button while the game booted gave me access to the windowed/full screen dialog. I set it to full-screen 1920x1200, but when Civ runs there is no image on either of my screens.

- Running it windowed, I can put it on the second monitor, but only at something like 1280x1024. This isn't really any higher resolution than the 1440x900 I can run on the laptop monitor.

My specific questions are:
- What is the highest resolution I can run Civ 4 at, on any monitor, on my Mac?
- Can I get the game, somehow, to run at a very high resolution on my large 24" monitor?
- While I'm asking, is there any fix to the strange invisible-except-for-their-eyeballs-and-teeth bug when the game displays the leaders?

Hi, welcome :wavey:

I doubt if I can help you myself. Although I have two monitors, they are both 1280 x 1024, and Civ4 will run on either monitor, in full screen or window mode. The screen resolution and selection dialog only offers me resolutions up to that size, but I assumed that was because the game worked out that it was the largest I could use. I'd be surprised to hear that it's because it can't handle bigger screens in this day and age.

I used see the graphics issues you mention when I was running the Windows version in early releases of Parallels, but they have disappeared in Parallels v4, and I've never seen them in the Mac versions.

1. Have you installed the patches and the latest update, which is a download replacement for the applications package? Links here.

2. Have you asked Aspyr tech support about your problems?

If you check my post here, you'll see I fixed this same issue on a unibody MBP by changing the anti-aliasing settings to 0.
