Cottages etc already decrease the amount of food you get from the plot.

Edit I think we already have food used to produce military units under some civics. It has been available in RoM 4EVA and is/was a source of amusement when RoM was compared to other mods.

Sorry bill but I don Not understand this post. Totally unclear what you are saying.

And to your original post, some of that was tried a long time ago and found to be "not good".

But this mod already limits Food production more than Vanilla BtS and most other mods. If you had to expend 5 food a turn for a unit After building it, Food production would have to be turned way Up. And I don't see the Modders doing that. Nor would I personally care to use it. But it could be developed as a Modmod. And that would be my suggestion for you to try.

But again that would imply that there would have to be a Food repository for that purpose whether it would be an Empire or city one.

Obviously the city food production would be the current one tying any unit built to that one. This would again cause cities to stagnate or shrink if you had to field any units for an army or for defense of that city. Unless Food production was upped significantly. Which would reverse the current mindset of the Modding teams goal over Food production and limiting city growth.

Currently you would use all your food production up on units like the Town Watchman to combat Crime, or the Healer to Combat Disease, etc. You would not have much if any army.

Again make a mod mod out of this and see if it works.
