Marathon Game Speed

Anyone tried this yet, I mean this looks unbelievable. 1200 turns, now that could be a real epic.
 
Hey, the people asked for a longer game, and this is what they get. ;)
 
well i am playing on my own custom made truely epic game speed; 6050 turns, 1 turn = 1 year. have played to 3850 BC such far, works fine.
i keept the recruiting and building kind of stuff at normal rate to make it fun playing and balanced the research thingies to the huge amount of turns. it also adds some realism as it dosent takes 40 years to siege a city.

any other hardcore geeks that dont have a life out there?- try it out (it will replace your epic speed with the custom made one, but the others are still left) put it in your Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Assets\XML\GameInfo to replace the old one.

you should also replace the culture info to keep the culture rate balanced (Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Assets\XML\GameInfo)

as i cant upload .xml i made them .txt , change the extension back to .xml before replacing, it should work

Not really. The way these speed levels have been implemented means that everything is just multiplied with 1.5 for epic and now 3 for marathon.

This means you can do everything in a normal game you can in an epic game. I an epic game you just have to press "Next turn" 50% more.

In other words playing epic or marathon will only wear down your spacebar, not really make the game any more "epic".
 
But there are still some differences: your units got much more turns to move/fight so you actually get to use them before them become obsolete.

and it feels more like civ for me
standard is just so much faster than the previous games

That's perfect cos you can have more ancient units early thus ancient wars become a possibility! I've been waiting for exactly this!
 
Crap, I'm going to ruin my keyboard salivating over this.

That's what I didnt' like about epic when I tried it--building my first warrior was going to take like 20 turns.

Now Epic sounds right to me.
 
I like longer games. There's more depth in it, and even Epic seemed a little like a hurry to me. Cool!
 
I was hoping for Normal build time, longer research so your units don't become obsolete quickly...

I believe that in Marathon tech pace is 300% of normal, but unit construction is 200%, so that it closer to what you wanted.
 
Well I edited marathon already to 400 percent tech tech cost, and 300 percent train cost. Mainly to make the tech about as slow as the actual game I want.
