Mass Effect for PC announced

That screams something out.

Spoiler :
You must love Half-Life 2! And you will love Metroid Prime 3, as it also has real-time physics.

And your point is? I never said MP3 was a bad game. I bought the Wii version as a gift for a friend, it's good, but not as good as Half-Life 2 and you can play with the physics a LOT more in HL2 (especially with the gravity gun). Physics don't make a game either.

(FPS games are vastly superior with a mouse I find.)

You also still havn't answered my question as to why you are so opposed to mods, I'm curious.

I'm opposed to them because I'm 13 and downloads aren't quite safe. Oh, and did I mention that video games are for PLAYING!!!!!?????

MODS ARE FOR PLAYING TOO.

So what if you are 13? Spyware and viruses don't care about what age, gender, race, sexualy preference or any other discriminating factor you are/have. I have never, ever gotten spyware or a virus from a mod I downloaded. And I've downlaoded 100s (mostly for Morrowind and Oblivion).

The entire Link franchise has been milked to death. Only a company like Nintendo could this and get away.

Try EA sport game series :p

NHL 94,95,96,97,98,99,00,01,02,03,04,05,06,07,08... :p

They are masters of milking franchise to death, and getting away with it. Now that bioware is under their thumb, I fear they'll face same fate as Origin Systems did. Another problem is that I tend to avoid EA titles like plague meaning if Mass Effect box will have EA logo, I can't touch it without biohazard suit.

If games are not to be modded, why do you think developers included modding tools with them in the first place, hm? :p

Game's are what ever you want them to be. You can play them or mod them to your hearts content. Hell, you can reverse engineer it if you're so inclided (may take few decades but if you want to, then go ahead). Or you can use the CD/DVD as frispee or coffee cup holder if you like. It's all up to you as the user to decide what they do with products you buy.

Just to reinforce the argument for modding. Game developers use modding and customization as one of the main selling points for games in the 21st century. As I said before it extends the life of a good game and gives it a longer shelf life. Some games just get boring after a while if you're unable to mod them. That's why most PC games made these days give you some kind of tool to let you mod the game. Civilization wouldn't be as popular if you couldn't create your own scenarios or add custom content. KotoR 2 was originally rushed to release which made the game incomplete and buggy, it was later completed through modding. The Counter-strike mod of Half-life was marketed as a whole new game.

If it weren't for modding, we certainly wouldn't have Counter Strike or Day of Defeat, Team Fortress 1 and 2 (mods based off the Source engine).

Playing baseball with CD's is hella fun. Until you have to clean them up.

That's why you do it in an abandoned lot!

Half-Life had one of the longest shelf lives in history of gaming because of the mods and is one of the most modded 3D FPS games of all time. Some of the mods became standalone commercial products and have had commercial sequals in Source Engine.

There are many Source Code projects based on source codes released by original developers that either aim to fix the games in question or aim to create alternate stand alone mods/games based on the engine. (most ID software games, Call to Power II, Freespace II, Jagged Alliance...).

There are numerous restoration and unofficial patch project created and being created for various games that fix bugs developers do not have time or resources to fix and to restore content cut from games due to lack of time. (Both Morrowind and Oblivion have such fix packs as do Planescape : Torment, Baldur's Gate 1&2, Fallout 1&2, Kotor 1(?)&2, Arcanum, Temple of Elemental Evil, Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines to name a few).

As far as I know, Kotor II : SL Restoration Project has not yet been released yet, or are you refering something else?

Several ways to murder Visas!
A whole new group of people who want to kill you!
Various ways to be responsible for the deaths of all your party members!

I think I'm going to like that mod, too bad I don't have either koToRs :(

God, I want to learn how to mod when I'm an adult (actually, maybe this summer).

I'm objected to mods because I want to be playing a game in its normal state. I'm going to give a huge challenge to modders right now.

Spoiler :
Buy Empire Earth III (It's now only $30) and mod it into a great RTS experience.

Be careful what you wish for. A lot of gamers have desired a simplified Empire Earth over the years, and...

You can still play a game in it's normal state. Some games let you install mods and choose which one you want to play (regualr game, mod A, mod B, etc).

Or other times it doesn't. However once you've played the regular game a bit, like in the case of the total war games, you'll never switch back from the mods (many of which vastly improve the game).

any developments on this? I can't find any news that supports that this is being worked on and I was wondering when they plan on actually releasing it

OK, it's supposed to be out now in North America and we Euros will have to wait until July 6 or so.
Has anyone got it yet ?
