I cleaned out the main continent around 600BC, but didn't win the game until over 1000 years later. But without mass teleporting & palace jumping, I couldn't have won for quite a bit longer, probably until navigation.
Alright, the details. At 650BC I finished off the last AI on the pangaea, but still had no contact with either the russians or the mongols.
650BC mimimap:
Russia turned out to be just off the coast to the NE, but I didn't find the mongols until I built the great lighthouse, and sent out a mass fleet of suicide galleys. They turned out to be over the ocean to the west. Both were declared on as soon as I met them, and both were weak enough that they gave me a beachhead at the end of the pseudo-war. The mongols gave me their city in 400AD, and I warmed up the teleporter.
400AD russia + minimap:
After abandoning every city on my mainland, my palace jumped to the russian island. Founded a new mainland city, gifted it to Russia, and 73 mounted warriors teleported to Russian lands, with 2 left behind to take out gifted cities. Recaptured and razed the 2 gifted cities, and the world looked like this:
Killed Russia, rinse & repeat the same trick with the mongols, and had a 490AD conquest victory. To me, that feels very exploitative. Whatever the ruling, I think palace jumping/teleportation should be included somewhere in the rules. Saves are below for those who want to look.
