Master of Myrror returns!

I was going to post the patch in a zip with no folders in it and describe in detail where it should be installed. Then I decided to make one with folders, but naturally I posted the one without them so installing that patch in Civ3\Conquests\Scenarios\ did nothing except place pediaicons.txt in Scenarios-folder. I replaced the patch now.

I hate this, the stupid little mistakes that keep popping up. It's just insanely annoying. I know it's not a big deal and there had been just two downloads of the file (one from Wolfhart who fixed it for himself and notified me of the problem). Still, I don't like it when a project like this starts off like this.

Don't sweat the small stuff Drift. Tiny patches don't bother me, plus this is more like Alpha than Beta. ;)

For some reason my Internet or virus protection settings won't allow me to d/l the mod from that site. (I click on it, my screen freezes, and then when it unfreezes nothing has happened!). Odd, but since a buddy of mine is getting it for me for Monday not a big deal.

@woodelf

Yeah, I know it's not a big deal, but that's just how I am - I dislike my own errors. :)

Strange about the 3ddownloads.com, could it be an overzealous pop-up guard? The site opens a pop-up window showing the waiting time when you start the download. I just tested it and it works for me. Have you tried with a different browser (assuming that you have more than one)?

No biggie on being a perfectionist. Just mentioning that I don't mind. :)

It's an oddity. I can't upload here, for example, but can click links in other spots. I think I only have one browser.

@woodelf

(I assume you are surfing on Internet Explorer)

I wholeheartedly recommend getting Firefox. It's free and it's so much better than IE.
http://www.mozilla.com/

Opera is good (and free) too
http://www.opera.com/

You not being able to upload here would suggest that the problem is related to pop-up windows. If you don't want to change browser (or you are already surfing with one of the two I recommended) you might want to look around your browser settings for things associated to handling pop-ups.

Thanks Drift. I'm trying Firefox now

edit - works like a dream now. Thanks again man.

Good to hear the problem was fixed. And now you can start exploring your new browser. After using tabs for a while, you can't live without them. And if you install mouse gestures from one of the extensions, they grow an instant connection to your spinal cord... I'm making 'forward' and 'back' mouse gestures even when browsing my folders. :)

I hope silence is a good thing (meaning that there haven't been any big problems with the beta). :) And don't take this as urging to pick up pace with the testing - test it as much as you feel like and as it fits your schedule.

Aaglo's suggestion to add High Men caught my interest after all. I think I'm going to replace the Beastmen with them after all. Beasties become a race resource, but I don't think I'm going to remove any of of the existing ones. This way I can get a race resource for each branch of magic (Sorcery has been without one so far).

This unexpected increase in workload means that it's going to take a few more days to finish the first patch with an updated pedia and other stuff. You may wait for this new patch before starting new games, but on the other hand, 95% of the mod remains the same after the patch so there is plenty to test. It's up to you guys. :)

I tried the arcanus - it all plays quite well, except that I was casted on a tiny island without rivers... and now I'm last in the game.

Also, I suddenly (I really don't know how) learned the whole map! How come - did some of my rivals build a wonder that somehow releases the whole map to everyone?

And I think that two of the unit-resources are placed wrong in the resources-pcx: the ogres look like the orc settler, and trolls look like ogre bull???

@aaglo

Sorcery VIII (IIRC) reveals the whole map. It could be a bit early in tech tree though. This should be mentioned in the pieces of parchment on the right side of the tech tree. (I did get them ready for the release version, didn't I?)

Resources are actually correctly set. I've color converted the orcs into ogres and I'm using your ogres as Trolls. :)

I know that sorc VIII reveals it, but I was nowhere near that. I was still researching... umm... something like "nature VI" (i.e. I'd just begun the second era... and I was way behind in tech compared to some other civs...)

@aaglo & mrtn

I'm not sure if it reveals the map for everyone. It's just a tech with "reveal map" selected. In regular game I believe the same flag is set for space flight. I've been under the illusion that the tech reveals the map just for the civs that have it.

BTW, mrtn, if you're wondering, we got the idea of color converting aaglo's orcs around the same time. Actually, I'm pretty sure I had already color converted mine when I noticed yours. (I really hope that you really did post some color conversions of aaglo's orcs and it wasn't just me dreaming it.)

Don't blame me for any colour converted orcs. I wasn't there, no one saw me! I can't wash off the blood!

Actually they were done by Olorin. :)

@aaglo

Thanks for the savegame. I didn't really learn anything about the revealed map thing, but it was really nice seeing how your game had turned out. All sorts of mages seemed to be doing fine if they had gotten good starting locations. Yours definitely wasn't among them. Merlin seemed to hold most ground, but some death mages were doing good as well. Merlin also seemed to have lots of ships.

And one last thing... man that map was big! I feel like even the small maps are sometimes a bit too large for my taste... I really should expand those city name lists that map seemed to have lots of "New Avalons" and "Avalon 2's" around.

@mrtn

Thanks for the information. Seems I was half-dreaming. :)

EDIT: nevermind, i found the special brownies ;)

Okay, on saturday, Imma DL this thingy and play the living daylights out of it! Except if mrtn releases WH 2.5 anytime soon ;) but I think that won`t happen, so all is good, I play a good mod this weekend, and then another good one a bit later :)

I like civ3 mods. I really do :)

I need to find another Conquests CD. My Drive chewed on the sides and now it won't stop spinning. Luckily I should be able to find one cheap somewhere.
