Matrix1 - Ziggurat Addiction

Going to parties instead of playing Civ? BLASPHEMY!

SHUN THE UNBELIEVER! SHUNNNNNNNNNNNN!

Well, there were a few multiplayer games in there too. It was really a haze... I think I managed to lose an OCC game where I had gold, river grassland corn, plains cow, and five hills in my BFC... then again, everyone had the same thing. I can't remember what that map was.

Anyway, set played, photos edited, writing now.

So yeah, some stuff happened during my turnset, and, like, some of it was good, and some of it was totally bad man! It harshed my buzz, dude!!

Oh, wait, wrong SG...

So, here's how it went down. I started with what looked to be a good position. We didn't have multiple cities, but that's OK... we have plenty of time to get them. One way or another.

So, as per the recommendations of the court, I made these actions occur in Turn 0.

Turn0.png

In case you can't tell, I moved the worker into the plains hill to the northwest and chose mysticism. I hit enter. The game loaded. And then, I told myself...

Turn1.jpg

Click this button! Click it! CLICK THE BUTTON, ZACH, JUST CLICK THE DAMN THING!!

So I did.

That was turn 1. Turn 2 was boring. Turn 3 (or was it 4?) got interesting, however. An Indian archer had just died to this barb warrior right next to one of our fogbusters. The barb was half health. Let me just show you.

Turn2.jpg

I saw a golden opportunity to get experience and eliminate a barb. 96% odds? I'll take that.

But alas! (And no, she's not Scottish) Who am I kidding, absolutely no one will get that... This happened.

Turn3.jpg

God damn it! 97% odds have never lied to me before! That's a 1 in >25 chance of our warrior losing! Our fogbusters suck!

So, mysticism comes in probably around 3 or 2 turns later, and of course, I forget to screenshot it. So I screenshot this instead...

Turn4.jpg

I, of course, pick Writing. Not much else eventful, I ran a total of 11 turns up, and this happened in the meantime.

Turn5.jpg

I tried to run a spy specialist as our variant specifies, but I couldn't! I couldn't!

So, since our variant is bended (but not broken), I'm sorry.

And then, I leave you with this:

Turn6.jpg

Somehow, I got 11 turns in without anything screwing up. If only Rolo were here, he could have pulled off a roloism to get the great wall in by now...

Oh yeah! The save! I forgot almost. Here you go!!

2000 BC

I have absolutely 0 recommendations! Well, there is one.

Follow the Admiral's orders and TORPEDO THE DAMNED!!

So, since our variant is bended (but not broken), I'm sorry.

Nah, it's not bent. We just don't have access to Ziggurats yet.

Anyways, amusing turnset!

SHUN THE DEAD FOGBUSTER! SHUNNNNNNNNNNNNNN! Love charlie the unicorn.

GW is up, that's nice. Do you think our live busters can manage a settler corridor towards Amazing Spot? I think this size 6 is due for settler(s) and worker(s) but we could use another pop to 7 and fully take advantage of the charismatic ivory.

babar.gif
<= That's one charismatic elephant.

It's 10 turns to growth, I don't think we should wait for it. Settlers, the warriors to escort them, and the workers to improve the new cities are the priorities now. Uruk can just gradually grow when warriors are building. It'll only take three and a bit warrior builds.

Some things of note when I looked at the save:

Barb archer... watch out!
Civ4ScreenShot0131.jpg

A new Ethiopian city, complete with horses.
Civ4ScreenShot0132.jpg

Nice report IO. ;)

Parties   :band:

So the GW finishes... What shall we build next? settler then worker?

Techs? finish writing, start PH and try and steal Oracle in second AMAZING city?

BTW, got it.

I wouldn't start on Priesthood until we have monuments in cities that urgently need them.

I'd say the tech order should be Finish Writing -> Archery -> Fishing -> Sailing -> Meditation -> Polytheism -> Priesthood -> Alphabet. Alpha should be home in time for zigs

As for builds, how does a pattern of Settler -> Warrior -> Worker -> Warrior sound for now? I say pattern because it would repeat itself: S>Wa>Wo>Wa>S>Wa>Wo>Wa>etc.

Edit: When we get archery in, replace the warriors in the pattern with archers, unless we're on a warrior build at the time, just let that finish and continue with the pattern.

Our first settler could meet up with the warrior currently fortified on the plains hill SE of the Wheat, then said warrior would escort the settler to the awesome site. Unless we go for the Copper/Fish site to the south, I figure that any other cities we settle will be fairly close to the capital, not necessarily needing warriors straight away, unless that barb archer hangs around...

I'll hold off playing until tomorrow around this time to allow for discussion.

I'm fine with filling in the tech tree before going for PH. Just wanted to throw the option for the oracle gambit out there.

I'd rather go settler, worker and then the pattern Matrix suggested. I'm about 80% sure I can get the settler to AMAZING without an escort given where the fogbusters are.

I don't think Oracle is really an option for us. We'd have to wait for the zig to come in first, and if we got it as quickly as you suggested, also wait for a monument. Then, what tech would we grab? Alphabet looks like the only decent option there. And yes, I am saying that if we got the Oracle, we'd only be able to grab a tech that we are allowed to self-research.

Anyways, if we let an AI get it, they get a free tech for us to swipe! :espionage: :mischief:

How long ago were you playing on Noble? You suddenly sound like a high-level player...

Damn, at this rate you'll be kicking ass in Deity...

makes sense. I've looked at the save in the interim, and, now that there's been 2 comments, I think I'll try to play tonight. Going to play a compromise with what Matrix suggested, following the tech path, but building settler (for AMAZING) then worker. That should just about kill my 10 turns and then we can discuss.

OT - and what exactly do pyro dwarves set on fire? just curious.

Nah, I still have trouble not getting my ass kicked on Monarch in single player. I play in SGs a lot better than I do by myself

Prince seems to be the best place for me in SP. I have a game going on there with Sury on the Fantasy Realm mapscript. Going for space. Napoleon DoWed on me, but he has swords and axes with a couple cats while I can build Longbows, Crossbows, Maces, and Knights!

:mischief: Igor was tired of all the words. First of all, he couldn't read most of them. Second, those he could understand seemed to be self evident and not require much debate. Igor had been impetuous in previous game and been punished by the Galactic Overlords. Igor decided to mull this situation over a nice glass of grog. Igor looked at the pictures again and thought, "IO has nice crayons. Ethiopia bad." The magic picture box lit up and Igor became distracted for a moment. It was time go to the magic food box for more grog. Igor was lazy and hit random buttons.

Tech progress:
writing > archery > fishing > sailing

There's a worker on the way to Amazing. The warrior and the worker are dancing around a wandering barb archer. We're backfilling the techs as suggested by Matrix. Once the monument in Uruk finishes, we can grow. We can use a few archers. I really really want to settle pink dot next and get some axes up and running.

The day that rocks burn, you shall have your answer.

Yeah, coal will work.

At least he's not Shaka of the Zulu. He's got Sacrificial Altars and Jags instead of Ikhandas and Impis. So, he's kinda crippled in sheer power potential.

Got it, I'll look around. I'll post some planning if anything relevant pops up that hasn't already been discussed. Probably won't play today, I've got Chrono Trigger uploads to manage, and I'm kind of tired.

Okay, so I added to our dotmap (I will be saving this.)

Civ4ScreenShot0134.jpg

Civ4ScreenShot0135.jpg

Civ4ScreenShot0136.jpg

Definitely gonna get the pink dot. We want copper, and we won't be getting it from a borderpop in Uruk anytime soon. There is a barb city by the pink dot, I think it's on that hill.
Civ4ScreenShot0137.jpg

I will scout it. It's not that urgent to destroy it even though it's taking our cows, since pink dot will still be able to grow on the wheat. I obviously won't attack it, though. We won't have access to that copper until pink dot pops its border, and we will definitely want vultures, not warriors, since it's on a hill. Though we could hold out until stealing IW and send swords if we have access to iron.

As you can see from my additions to the dotmap, we have two choices for horses. The one to our north would be better, but we have to steal IW from someone before we can do anything there. The one to the south of Amazing Eridu is not that great, but it's got the horses, and it's got furs as well. But it's also on tundra, and the maintenance will probably be high. I doubt it will ever be great, but it only needs to work two, maybe three tiles (the resources, natch), and is more accessible to us in the short term. I guess it all depends on how soon we want access to horses. We can probably live without them until stealing IW since we will have copper.

Probably won't switch to Slavery yet.

Oh and I went on a landscape naming spree :p I did it after taking those screenshots, however.

I'm not crazy about settling that massive jungle belt. I'd rather take the Ethiopian city if we decide we really need horses.
