Max number of opponents on Civ 4

I have been informed in another post under Civ3, that the max number of opponents in Civ3 is 30. Does anyone know what the max number of opponents will be in Civ 4? By that I mean how many civs can be on a given map at the same time, not how many total civs are included in the game. For example, let's say that the total # of civs available in Civ 3 was 60, but you can only play against 30 at the same time on the huge maps. Thanks for any info on this issue.

In Civ3 it was identical. WIth a very quick change you could play all 31 civs on a smaller than tiny map. I've heard that limits (except for the limit of your computer) have more or less been removed. but that is just a rumor.

im not sure...becauese i have heard...dont know how true it is...that there will also be minor civs in the game play...im sure this may limit the amount of enemys....but there are only 18 civs...so i htink it would be possible to play that many on the map.

Have they specified whether 2 of the same civ (i.e. both leaders) can play at the same time?

Even though Civ 4 will come with 19 Civs, it's obvious that there be more civs added over time. Between the mod community (Hear hear!!!) and any upcoming add-ons from Firaxis, I hope that there be at least 40 or so Civs (Civ3 had 31). So hopefully we will be able to modify the game to make space for all Civs to play at the same time. Should be fun and engaging to play against 40 or more Civs. That would be great.

they said they have been playing with 3 teams of 4 = 12 civs at least. Dont know if that will make the final game.

I beleive the "minor civs" are Barbarians with a culture name attached. I was also under the impression that the full 18 civs could all be in the same game at the same time.

I'd love to play a game with 40+ civs, even if it took forever between turns. I'm pretty sure that we'll be able to do that with the moddability they're talking about.

If they allow you to play with 30 civs -- and I really hope they do -- they should optimize the interface for 30 civs instead of what they did with civ 3 where on the diplomacy screen you have to switch civs in and out to see all the alliances and stuff (IIRC, it's only 8 at a time with civ 3).

In the E3 video, there were two Chinas in the game at the same time, so I would assume yes. Now the question is, can you have 30 Gandhis in a game at the same time? :crazyeye:

Damn straight they should! From what we've seen from gameplay footage (I'm thinking of that one where Kublai Khan is just a painting) the civ relations screen (not the trade screen) is very similar to Civ 3, but we don't know if it will only fit a maximum 18 heads on there at one time. Other than that, we will just have to rely on the quality 3rd party tools we used for Civ 3.

The best solution: line up all 18 leaderheads horizontally across the top of the screen and click on it to see info (all the lines in the civ3 diplomat screen's just too confusing anyway)

Actually you can play with all 31 Civs at least with Civ 3 complete you can. I am doing it right now on a small map. Just got Civ3: Complete a couple weeks back. It does take a long time to look at trades with all these Civs those.
