May I read a spoilier

GOTM 3 is the first gotm I'll play. But I did not begin it yet, trying some training games (never played as monarq before).

Am I allowed to read the spoilers of this game if I want to compete?

And if I'm allowed to, do you think it's a good idea to do it?

It's not allowed, cos you can get information about the map, locations, good city-sites, neighbours, etc etc etc...

The idea of a GOTM is to play it first without knowledge you shouldn't have And as soon as you qualify for a spoiler, you can read it...

But I usually don't bother with spoilers until I finished the game.

If you want strategies etc, you are welcome to read the spoilers from previous GOTMs at any time.

It's rather simple. This is a competition. If you read the spoilers before you play you get to know details that other players didn't know when they played. That gives you an unfair advantage. Just like reloading to replay turns.

For people whom english is bad (like me ), it was not clearly announced. Certainly it must be more explained in the threads.
So I will wait knowing all other leaders before reading it! (that is the condition if I have well understood? Not very clear again, that is what made me hesitate...)

Just take a look at the first post in the spoilers. You'll see clearly stated what the conditions are that you have to fulfill in order to read the spoilers.
Until you meet those conditions, you are NOT allowed to read them...

That is not an explicite instruction, and requires a little bit of interpretation. I can see why a non-native speaker might not by be certain what that means. It might be clearer to say something more direct like: "To be allowed to read this thread, you must...."

Thx Jastrow. For me , poor french, this sentence says : "you are not allowed to post in this thread...". I think also it would be better to explain that in the download thread, or one of the post-it!

Maybe I am just blind, but as I started recently (and just for fun) GOTM1, I couldn´t find the spoiler thread for this game in this forum (only the pre-game thread). Was it removed as it is too old?

Change your view options at the top left of the forum to the whole year and you will be able to see it. It by default is set to 100 days.
