Can you reveal your prowess in controlling a Medieval kingdom? Test your skills in this random map PBEM, where you will take control of a kingdom, bring it out of the dark ages and into the Renaissance era. Fight alongside an allied kingdom against your blood enemies. Either exterminate the enemy kingdoms completely, or become the dominant civilization by the end of the Medieval era!

Going on to the game settings, what I want to do is kind of play a Civ IV game that is almost like an TBS version of AoEII. I want it to be a 3v3 game. At the same time, I want it fast-paced and full of combat. So I have tweaked some of the game settings to fit that role.

Options that are here to stay: (Things with * on them indicates that they have been decided in the forum.)
-Always War
-Start in Medieval age.
-Epic time
-160 turns time limit (Which should span the timeline of 250A.D-1600A.D)
-Espionage on
-6 players, two teams.
-Team battleground, desert land bridge*
-Advanced start (1000 gold)*
-Choose leaders and civs with unrestricted leaders*
-Random events/tribal huts off*
-Barbarians off*
-Standard resources*
Options that are up for discussion:
-Small or standard map

Players participating in the game: (It's a first come first served basis of joining)
-sinimusta
-ruff_hi

If you could add "King" or "Queen" before your name and give your kingdom a unique name as well, that would be cool =) .

P.S: This will be the first PBEM I host and participate in. :D

Welcome! I am sure many players would like to join this game. In my case I just don't like random maps and civs, so if majority will go that road I won't be able to join.

However,

There are many cool Medieval scenarios around. Embriodead's Japan scenario is a gem. Else, one could think of crusades. Nobody ever played it on my watch as PBEM, the choice of two teams is obvious there. I am sure we can find a good scenario even with vanila rules. Also reconquista set in Taifa period (there is a very slow game going on right now with strong Cordoba, but we could restart that with balanced start).

If you guys end up using some historical map and settings I am in.

A historical map is not really what I'm looking for, but if I find an interesting one, I might change the game.

Sounds interesting, I'd like to join. I'd like to choose leaders and civs with unrestricted leaders. I suppose we would play advanced start?

Also as it's a team game I hope we have enough time for strategic discussions.

Yeah those options are good. Of course there will be time for strategic discussion, its called team play.

We can do an advanced start, nut we do start. How much gold do you think is ideal?

Maybe about 1000 gold. I just checked that a city with medieval start is 200 points, unlike ancient and they have granaries.

count me in.

Huts and events off. Barbs off. Standard Resources. Team battle map, left v right (or is it top v bottom?)

What do you mean by 'Epic Time'? Epic game speed? You really want that with a pbem where you see 1 turn every 2-3 days?

If we take the Team Battleground, then we should choose either round, donut or desert bridge option as otherwise according to my tests we will have a sea separating the teams, which will be bad for warring. At least I don't like the idea of sea separating the teams.

As the poor sod that expanded the Team Battleground map script, I think (IIRC) I can say that there is another option (Top v Bottom). The Left v Right involves a water gap.

Here is the original description (before my map script enhancement) ...

Team Battleground

Regional Map: No world wrap
Ultra-Small Map: This map is our smallest map script, meant to give MP players an arena
in which to play "deathmatch" style, for ladder play or team play!
Varied Dimensions: Top vs Bottom and Four Corners settings are square maps. Left vs Right
is normal/rectangular. All settings are ultra tiny and cramped!
Square Maps: TvB and 4C are square: both are 32 x 32 plots at "Standard" map size
Rectangular Maps: LvR is rectangular, being 40 plots wide and 24 plots tall at "Standard"
Friendly Climate: To reduce dud zones, dud maps and dead regions, the polar areas have
been shrunken, and the amount of desert was significantly reduced.

TEAM PLACEMENT - Each of the three "Team Placements" offers a different strategic bent.
"Top vs Bottom" - DEFAULT - All-land map akin to a "Lakes" map, with a desert at center.
"Left vs Right" - The two halves are split by an ocean! Sometimes you can cross early.
"Four Corners" - Each "quadrant" is guarded by water, except at the very center, where
there is a single X-shaped land bridge connecting all sectors.

Four corners looks pretty interesting, I can see a huge battle for the center occuring, whereas in top vs bottom, it is almost like a no man's land, and the attacker is bound to be at a disadvantage.

Definitely, all players should reach each other conveniently without having to resort to water transport.

LvR with desert land bridge does the same and you don't need 4 teams ... you can do it with 2.

Yeah okay. So the map has been decided. I'll update the original post. So from what I'm getting so far, sinimusta and ruff_hi are in. Fishystick, do you want to join too?

What would be an ideal map size for this game? I think small is preferable, since there is less room to occupy and more incentive to fight the other team. Also, less turns moving and more turns fighting.

What do you mean by 'Epic Time'? Epic game speed? You really want that with a pbem where you see 1 turn every 2-3 days?

I'm not really sure. The thing is that in the normal speed, the timeline just zips through the middle ages. I can make it so that the speed is normal, but we would have less turns to play. If people are fine with that, them I have no problems with it as well.

Obviously, the main essence of this game is teamwork, and because of that there needs to be a way all team mates can communicate with each other in private. Can that be done through Civ fanatics?

Neither do I. In normal speed, we would only have about 100 turns to play. Epic game speed should not be an issue when we have an advanced start. It should allow us to skip the initial building up phase and get straight to the action.
