Meet the Modders

If you're tutoring just the one person, then it shouldn't be that terrible.

No, it's group tutorials. 10 or so first year students.
One on one? Who do you think we are? Oxbridge? :p

How DARE you lump those Oxford silly people with almighty Cambridge?????? *puts on monocle and is offended*

I just thought you were to be given one as a sort of trial thingy.

No, we will go through a meeting with the core module lecturers, get everything explained, and, well, if we are no good, or if we drop out, no loss for them, as we're payed by the class. :)

Hope you're not a language tutor…

I apologise. That's the academic in me; explaining everything in such a way as you leave knowing less than when you arrived.

What I mean is, there is no trial period. Instead, we are thrown in the deep end.
However, this will not be a detriment to the university, as if it turns out we are unsuited to the job, they have not actually lost any money, as we are only payed per tutorial, rather than as a lump-sum.

Arggghhh, you did it again!

Just finished another story :)

Titled "the cloth" it is about a metaphorical cloth that is being broken up to threads.
A story of a murder, or what seems like an irrational violent crime, is argued by the narrator and perpetrator to have been inevitable and therefore not his fault.

Some more news :)

I finished another story.

Also i just got a reply from a second printed magazine, which generally has the meaning that they would like to publish some of the work i sent them, only making a few changes. Some day i will be known enough to actually persist in minimal or no changes at all, but for the time being i have to be diplomatic ;)

Yesterday night i started writing something which seems to be expanding into a small novella.

It is titled "11". It is about two patients in a psychiatric clinic. The one lives in room 11, the other in 2. 11 is really a metaphor for 1 and 1 standing together, since it is possible that the two patients are in reality only the same person, only that the narrator (the one who lives in room 2) does not see it.
It seems that the person dwelling in the eleventh room has stuck to being emotionally 9 years old, although he is of the same age as the narrator, a bit over 30. The narrator is a painter, and paints images that the other person wants to see.
There are other stuff going on, but the main point is that the narrator, without realizing it, has split himself into two parts, mostly because of a massively repressed murderous memory of when he was 9.

Wish me luck, i hope i can complete it as well as i want to :)

That sounds pretty awesome! Good luck :D

I've just chosen my thesis topic, and started a small book review.

The topic will be something along the lines of "Death and Disease in Early Modern Holy Roman Empire"
It will be about the culture of medicine, famine, plague, and death in the HRE around the 1600's.

My book review is on a special issue of the American Historical Review from Oct. 2008, about General Crisis Theory. :)

Belated update to my status - am now working on a PhD in Korean studies. :king:

...of course this means that my time for modding (not that I had much time to begin with :crazyeye: ) is even more limited.

But you are Korean, aren't you?

Not sure, I just thought you were. :dunno:

Seems like an aeon passed since i had that story accepted by that printed magazine... Now, finally, i got a final letter from its arch-columnist in which he asked (again) for my biographical note, and also that i suggest some image to be placed above my text.

So i sent the biographical note, enriched with the new info that i am "collaborating with printed and electronic literary magazines", and chose a carefree and light-hearted, positive image to go with the text

Spoiler :
...which is about a murder

Thank you :)

Finished two more stories, and sent one of them to two magazines.

I am taking a break from graphics making, and will return in a couple of days.

I wrote another Borges-influenced story, about a hypothetical being with 4 eyes, two in the front and two in the back.

Some not that significant news: a story got published in a blog, and another in an ezine, making it the third of mine in said fantasy-centered ezine... But the damn magazine still has not appeared! It should this week though...
