Metallica back in form?

You got it right Curt, there is still pleanty of good metal around, and more bands turnign up all the time:goodjob:

I may disagree with you on a few bands, as I like Pantera, think Sepultura are coming back into form (seen them at donnington and they were one of the bands of the festival, was great as all the kids were of watching Maryilon Manson so the pit was ****ing brutal!) and like System Of A Down, but I must agree that the metal scence is very much alive.

Just because crap like Linkin Park and Evanscence is popping up everywhere doesn't mean that there aren't any good bands around. Though due to cash restrictions it means I rarely get to actually purchase their CD's, there are several bands I intend on checking out such as Arch Enemy, Chimiara and Corparation 187. And these bands are all available in your local shops (at least in the Uk anyways), I remember about a month ago our resident metal head took me though the HMV metal section pointing out a trillion bands I shoudl check out. And then mainstream bands such as Deftones are still going strong without conforming to current Linkin Park style trends. Their is pleanty of music around to cater your metal tastes, whetehr they be mainstream or more extreme, or in my case a mix of both:cool:

Well I'm definitely checking out the sources and bands that you guys have mentioned. Like I said, I'm always looking for new stuff, and where I live the good music stays far way.

Curt, you've given me some good leads, and I appreciate that. I just have to sort through the bands that are just rehashing and find the ones that have a little originality to them.

ComradeDavo mentioned a heavy metal section in his local record store...well, that would be nice in this po-dunk city. You would think that a city of 3 and a half million folks woud at least support some kind of stores that had metal, much less a "scene". But nope, no such luck. :(

Heard most of St. Anger, it's not like the old stuff so don't go into it thinking like that.

The St. Anger single reminds me a lot of System of a Down - i'd say definitely influenced. so if you don't like them, approach with caution.

Have to listen to it a bit more before i decide whether i like it or not. either way, i wouldn't pay money for it :D

Interesting to see that there's no copy-protect stuff on the cd :) while i pay for other music, i will never again pay for metallica.

new metallica music

I didnt like St. Anger the first time I heard it, because I know that Metallica can do better, but its getting better and better for each time I hear it... now its quite good.. Cant wait to hear it again :)

Curt - I've tried many of these labels already, and have found they don't stand up to music that was made 20 years ago, at least not to my ears. I'm not refusing to be open - I've opened up to it and found it not to my liking. We can disagree on whether it's good or not, but that's simply a matter of taste.

And it's no nostalgia thing - I was 4 years old when Kill 'Em All was released. I'll admit, my taste when it comes to metal is rather narrow, but what I've listened to just doesn't do it for me. I know the scene is alive and well - and I'm glad. But I will continue to do what I've always done - rock out to the songs I like best, and keep my ears open for new sounds that do it for me. Haven't found any recently, but I hopefully will.

And until then, I will hopefully be free from hasty, erroneous judgements made by fellow metal fans ;)

There is no accounting for taste.

Metal is everywhere, and rock still rules.
But what happened in 1988, will not be repeated,
but the scene is just as good today. IMHO.
I hope you find what you are looking for.

I made no judgements, I am not a judge.
I just made an observation, you are not bound by law to conform to it.

My man, your credit card and the internet is your answer.

I can sympathise with your plight.
It used to be like that in Glasgow, but now there are tons of metal labums being stocked in our big high street stores, (Fopp, HMV, Megastore).

Some record store execs are now taking a chance on
stocking the jeans and leather metal as well as the hair-dye and trenchcoat variety...

Also there are many little back avenue music shops, that get in all the new releases.
