Mic6 - AWM Pangea

Oh, I've just realised. I believe it is my turn to play.
I've got it and will play either tonight or in the worst case tomorrow

Pre-flight:

I've loaded the save and i noticed we have specialists hired.
I believe that was micro-management to avoid wasting shields on the last turn.

T1. 250AD Kyoto Market->HOrseman
Osaka Temple->Horseman
Yokohama Trebushet->Walls
Nagasaki MDI->Walls
Matsuyama Walls-Warrior
Horse vs Hittite archer -> 4hp horse

IBT. French archer badly redlines our horse army

T2. 270AD Small skirmishes around.
MDI Army vs Hittite Chariout -> MDI Army
Horse vs Bab Bow -> Horse
Pillaging areas around paris
Restreating horse army from french territory to heal.
Sword army is on its way home

IBT: Bow vs Horse -> Horse retreats.

T3. 280AD
Lots of small skirmishes again. I am trying to re-group create as many units as i can on our land
Settler is on it's' way to new city location.
Switched Nagoya city to build market. We need infrastructure but we can only build piece meal at a time.

IBT. Greek Ancient Cav. kills our Elite* sword

T4. 290AD.
Skirmishes. No losses
Horse promoted to elite
T5. 300 AD
Skirmishes.
Lost Horse to spear.

T6. 310AD
Horse army fully healed and ready for some pillaging

IBT Lost another sword to Greek Ancient Cav.

T7 320 AD
Horse army pillages roads
This turn was nice and calm

T8 330AD. Nasty barbarians made a long trip and appeared in the middle of the battle field near Nagasaki.
Killed all 4 barbs and none of our horses got promoted.
Babs landed a bow near Osaka, lost horse but pike killed bow and got promoted.

T9 340AD. Lots of enemy troops aproaching. I will wait for the next turn to meet them in counter-attacks closer to our cities.

IBT. Greek Ancient Cav. kills mountain fortified pike. Those ancient cavs are becoming real pain. Oh, and BTW Greeks are building Knights Templar.

T10 350AD. Lots and lots of battles near Nagasaki. Fortunately I lost only one elite archer. Killed 3 ancient cavs but lost many hps on both armies.

Post turn:
We have units to fight and we should keep building them. At the same point I didn't do a good job on expansion. :sad:
I've only founded one citY and another settler is on it's way. I should have built more settlers, but i was hurrying to produce more units. We have temple built in Yokohama. I want border cities to expand so enemy horses can't reach them in one turn. I'd rather have libraries in border cities, but our temples are so cheap comparing to libraries so for this game it makes total sence to start building temples in border cities and cash rush them.
I've started library in Izumo - another city I'd like to expand and We have to start thinking more about libraries. G. Lib. will be obsolete sooner than we want it to be.

We are paying military support, hence again we need more cities and we need to grow more cities beyond pop 6.

I left few wounded units undefended this last turn, but i believe most of them if not all will survive until next turn.

That's all folks.

All right, the fight has come. :)

IBT. Greek Ancient Cav. kills mountain fortified pike. Those ancient cavs are becoming real pain. Oh, and BTW Greeks are building Knights Templar.

Pillage their ivory. :) Let's send the horse army for that job. I assume France is still alive. As much as I with to erase them, it's more important to hurt stronger AIs.

France is only left with 2 cities and other AIs quickly fill land around former France... I don't think France will ever be a thread...
I just didn't have resources to completely destroy them.

I've got it. Find the Greek Ivory and increase our unit support. Any thoughts of going for the Knights Templay ourselves?

I took a look at the game, and a few comments.

1. We can build FP. Where to do it? Nagoya?

2. I am really worried when I see this:

Mic6-350AD.jpg

- not counting the two armies, we have two horses injured and stay in the open. Please avoid doing that! If you have to expose your units after killing, consider not kill at all. Any one of our units are worth 8-10 of the enemies, as we want that kill ratio. If you have to kill and stay in open, move a defender to cover the attacker!
- what is our elite horse doing beside the mountain? It's waiting to be killed.
- Why don't we have any pike in Yokohama, while leave a pike fortified on the mountain outside of our territory? We are lack of pikeman. Produce more of them. I'd like to see 3 pikemen in each of our front towns.

3. The picture shows that we need trebs. We only have one. Stop all the horsemen build and switch to pikes and trebs.

4. Please connect the gems asap.

1. I would rush the fp with a leader and place it close to the front (i.e. in a city that is save from capturing and close to the front).

2. Agree on the units in the open. We have to build stacks. Cover the horses and either attach and retreat with the second movement or attack with the stack including a pike. I disagree on pikes. I do not see much reason to build many of them. We want to attack, not wall in our cities.

3. Yes, we need trebs.

4. A town next the gems would be nice, but cover the mountain with gems from attackers then.

This case is a calculated risk, as i said before i believe all units will survive turn switch. There are no 2 tile moving enemy units nearby and nobody should get hurt.

It just had it's elite win, while trying to fish for MGL

We need that pike on the mountain. It gives as an edge to see all early AIs troop movements and helps to properly concentrate units for counter-attacks. Please keep pike fortified on that mountain.

I was shaffling pikes around to protect cities currently under attack, yes that is to say we don't have enough pikes, but i don't want to see 3 pike in each town. That is a WASTE of unit support we pay for!!!. We must build more attacking units and counter attack instead of waiting on AIs to attack our cities.... I strongly dissagree with strictly defensive play based on pikes.

We need few more trebs, I believe i started building couple, but it's not that we needed only trebs, we need other units as well.

There is a worker working on connecting Gems already.

Adjust builds to Trebs and change a few infra builds to more suitable buildings.

IBT Elite horse survives attack from Bowman. 2hp horses retreats from Greek warrior promoting him to vet. Barbs ride out from west of Matsuyama. (1-0)

360AD-1 Horse from Nara rides out and is killed by a Hittite archer. Horses from Nagasaki kills him and a second. Third and fourth horses retreat from Jav Thrower w/o injuring him. Pull everyone else back to heal except for the lookouts. (3-1)

370AD-2 Horse from Yokahama kills a Bowman. MDI from Sapporo kills a JT. Kill a second JT approaching Nagasaki. Upgrade loose sword for 30g. (6-1)

IBT Look out spear south of defeats a Elite JT. Horse alone due to misclick retreats from a JT.

380AD-3 Kyoto treb-->treb. Osaka treb-->treb Lose one horse killing three JT's walking between Nagasaki and Nara. Kill the Greek warrior and a Babylonian spear. Move settler to new location Sof Nara and W of Nagasaki. Move to intercept Carthage archer. (11-2)

IBT Carthage archer dies. Lookout south of Sapporo dies. We learn Monotheism. (13-3)

390AD-4 Tokyo treb-->pike 2 unsucessfull attempts on leader fishing kills a Hittite and French archer. Sword army kills two Bowmen. MDI army kills a 3-man and a Hittite spear. Kill a JT. Spend 148g on a courthouse in Edo which is at 4 fo 10 corrupted shields. (20-3)

IBT We learn Chivalry!!!

400AD-5 Nagasaki treb-->library Edo court-->library Nara treb-->library Osaka, Tokyo and kyoto swapped to Samurai. Drops some rocks on a AC and finish him with horse. Hakodate founded and starts barrack. Sword army destroys Bab city of Izibia near gems. The horse army has yet to find the Greek homeland. Rush market in Nagoya for 124g. (22-3)

IBT Lose an Elite horse I forgot to cover. (22-4)

410AD-6 Nagoya market-->Samurai. Drop some more rocks on a AC and kill him with a horse. Hill 4 JT and a Bab and Hittite warrior at Hakodate. Kill two more Hittite archers and finally promote a vet horse to Elite. (31-4)

420AD-7 Yokohama pike-->treb I found the Greek homeland but do not see any ivory yet. Kill an AC. Complete court in Kagishima, losing 3 fo 8, for 140g. (32-4)

430AD-8 Osaka completes first Samurai. Satsuma settler-->temple. Kagoshima court-->Samurai Ozumo library-->Samurai Kill a Hittite archer approaching Yokohama but no leader. Kill a 3-man and 2 more Hittite archers. (36-4)

IBT Babyonians complete the Great Lighthouse.

440AD-9 Promote a second horse on a French archer near Yokohama. Pillage some Greek horses and see their ivory. Sword army kills a French settler pair. Kill a Bowman near Nagasaki. Rush temple in Satsuma for 105g. (39-4)

IBT We learn Theology. Greeks start Leo's.

450AD-10 Kyoto Samurai-->library Another Elite victory w/o leader. Sword army kills a French spear. Disconnect Greek Ivory. MDI army goes yellow attacking a Hoplite south of Hadodate. (42-4)

We are up to 6 Trebs but the armies and horses were keeping most people from getting next to a city. Our 10 loose horses are soon to obsolete. I saw a Greek knight before disconnecting their horses.

I did not get a leader so I did not start the FP. There is no good place to build it. Posibly in an new town S of Nagasaki and E of Hakodate.

I have not moved the settler and a lot of slaves/workers near Sapporo.

I have an archer in Satsuma to deal with the Carthage archer next turn.

Now for the big question, how do we want to use our GA? We have a Samurai in Nagasaki ready to go kill the Hittite spear the trebs weakened. I vote to use the money to rush the key buildings in our top towns. We can use a few horses as starting shields if needed. Here are the needs for the towns netting at least 5spt:

Osaka-->court
Tokyo-->aqueduct, market, temple
Kyoto-->library
Edo-->library, market
Nara-->library, aqueduct, market
Nagoya-->court, library
Izumo-->market, aqueduct
Kagoshima-->market, aqueduct, temple
Nagasaki-->market, aqueduct, temple

The Game

I got it.

I would prefer to trigger the GA soon and use it mostly to build infra. We can upgrade the horses to Samurai as long as we do not need to research - which may be only a short time. We will follow the lower path to metallurgy and military trad, I guess?

Sorry again, but I had a long meeting and was not home before 21:00 :(, but this is the post reserved for the turnlog. I just finished playing, will read some mail and then will write the log.

EDIT: I trigered the GA, finished The Pentagon and The Forbidden Palace and built mostly settlers and infra. We now have libs to start some self research, once education comes in - Greece already has it. The horse army was used for pillaging the AIs homelands. We still need to mix in some markets though. Kyoto and Osaka are optimised for Samurai in 3/4 turns.

Pre: Trigger our GA. Lose a samurai vs the redlined spear :mad:. Kill it with a second. Osaka switched to forbidden palace in 7 (1-1).

460AD: Kill 1 bowmen, 2 3MC, 2 archer. Barb camp dispersed (6-1).

470AD: Ise and Toyama founded. Kill 1 AC, 1 bowman, 2 archer. Lose a horse. MGL appears and hurries The Pentagon in Yokohama (10-2).

480AD: Kill 1 AC, 1 archer, 1 bowman (13-2).

490AD: Kill 1 spear, 1 3MC, 2 javelins, 1 archer. Raze a Mayan town (18-2).

500AD: Kill 1 spear, 1 archer, 1 settler, 3 longbows, 2 3MC. Lose a horse (26-3).

510AD: Kill 1 bowman, 2 longbows, 1 hoplite (30-3).

520AD: Fukushima founded. Kill 2 numidian mercs, 1 settler, 1 worker, 1 archer, 1 longbow, 1 spear. Catharge is taken and Hannibal is out (37-3).

530AD: Kill 1 spear, 1 javelin, 2 archer. Lose 1 pike and 1 MDI (41-5) Hittite town destroyed.

540AD: Kill 2 longbows, 2 spears, 4 3MC, 1 bowman (48-5).

550AD: Suo founded. I left you 4 settlers: two on the spot marked "2" and one on "1". I would found like layed out. You can keep the Hittite town - they only have half our culture or less - and connect the dyes. Please pillage resources - we did not have to fight a single iron unit and it would be nice to keep it as long as possible.
