Middle eastern medieval fortifications

Did they differ considerably from the analogous western ones, and from the ancient middle eastern walls?

I need some concept art for my medieval set of that area :)

It looks a bit too Greek/Ottoman. Plus, I would reccomend not having the Masjid al-Haram in every large city.;)
 
Well the temples are mostly ottoman, which in turn probably is mostly byzantine in style, so you are correct :) I try to have models made of actual structures, so including some which are obviously only existent in one city is inevitable. It is just that the dome of the Rock is more iconic than most i have created- apart from the Hagia Sophia :)
 
Also,to compare with the Greek (Byzantine) set:

In this all of the churches are real, two from Constantinople (The Nea Ecclesia and the Hagia Eirene) and two from Thessalonike (The Panagia Chalkeon and the Holy Apostles).

Except that middle eastern sets should represent non-ottoman styles since you're not doing the Ottomans. You'd want more minarets that look like minarets, not pillars, as well.
