Military "Pictionary" Game II

sicily? like I know

looks to be some sort of knighting, dont know why, cause hes already in knight armor...but im clueless

I'll guess Charlemagne? , but looks like there are Spaniards in the
pic too :crazyeye: .

Well it's renaissance period, probably French troops if the "F" on the horse is anything to go by (unless it's a red herring).

Given that it's likely to be an important knighting I would hazard a guess at Bayard knighting Francis I after Marignano in 1515. However the person being knighted looks a little old to me as IIRC Francis was just 21 at the battle, so I could be wrong. As to what happened Francis had just shattered the Swiss control over Milan by defeating them in a bloody engagement through the use of artillery and Gendarmes (cavalry).

If right it would seem that the A Level in Tudor History does have some uses

Very good! You get it well.
I agree the picture may not be very easy, as Francois 1er indeed was 20, and looks older.

Beside the F (that is probably more for François than for France by the way), the Fleur de Lys was another hint for French troops

No, it's in 1515, "long" after the Hundred year wars, during the Italy wars (the 5th to be more precise). Marignano was a battle between the French and the Swiss. It was quite an important battle, as one of the few defeats of the Swiss, who had quite a reputation of invincibility at the time

Bayard was the perfect knight, "sans peur et sans reproche" (without fear or reproach). He was very famous, although not a noble, and after the battle, the king François 1er who was only 20, asked to be knighted by him, to honour him as Bayard (whose real name was Pierre Terrail) imporsonated all the ideal of chivalry.

Charlemagne is 800 AD. Does the guys in the foreground really look like this time period?

Not easy, is it? :D

A simple No or Incorrect will do just fine  , without the scolding.

Calm please gentleman, I will post my question later tonight :)

Well I studied A Level history in school, half of which was Tudor history, the other half post ww2. I found the Tudor history quite boring - too much social and religious information and not enough blood and guts for my liking.

At the same time I happened to get involved in wargames and a friend of mine who shared the hobby happened to be in the history class. I spent more time wargaming or discussing battles from the period with him than I did doing homework :D

Anyway, what connects these photos?

Clues and further photos can be given if needed :)

The Great Eastern Steamship Company?
I think the first photo is Isembard Kingdom Brunel the designer of the largest ship in the world at that time The Great Eastern. Which I think we see running aground in the second photo.
I don't knowwhat the third is but I assume it is a cross channel ferry company and the forth is a Prussian or German dude. I think the owners of that company were German.
That is a real rough guess though. And I would be surprised if I was anywhere close.

It's not a bad attempt but wrong sorry. You're on the right lines but the wrong people/things.
