Military "Pictionary" Game II

well aircraft # 6 is being flown by Chuck Yeager, the man in pic # 3 is Chuck Yeager
Yup,
Yeager is the man.

His first combat aircraft he checked out in was the Aircobra.
the second was the P80 that he flew extensively whilst at Edwards during his days as a test pilot... which leads to the third aircraft.
The Supersabre was heavily tested by Yeager and he had extensive input into its development.
The 4th is a Canberra Light Bomber. B57 I think in USAAF speak. He commanded these in Vietnam and flew them on quite a few missions despite the brass discouraging these antics.
The last is an F20 Tigershark his personal favourite aircraft of all time. I would have thought he would go for a more masculine aircraft but anyway.
Bugfatty and Nonconformist get points but Cidknee gets the win for being first.

Sometime between June and September 1941. Operation Barbarossa had just begun and German troops had just invaded Latvia. They were greeted not as invaders but as 'liberators' by the population of Riga. The Communist regime of the USSR had been oppressing the populace so vigorously that the Latvians viewed anybody else as a godsend.

My wife's grandmother was Latvian and often spoke of the wonderful german troops that saved them. She fled with them when the Russians came back bent on revenge in 44.

Who is this man?
What is his nationality?
What is his place in history?

well heres the descrpition of my last photo, so i guess it was posed.

Germans occupy Riga in July 1, 1941. Many Latvians greeted them as liberators since only a week before Russian NKVD carried out mass deportation of thousands of anti Communists to Siberia.

Hornblower: I'll venture a guess that it's a Czech? The cap looks like the angles Czech officer's hat.

Close but no cigar.

He played a key part in the battle depicted here.
He survived and I enclose a picture of him later in life.
The uniforms may give you a clue.

Why do my pictures sometimes display as pictures and other times as links?

Hmmm, hard.
The medal around his neck in the first piccy wouldn't happen to be the Pour le Merite, would it?

No it isn't the Blue Max but it is a similar order belonging to another country.

So he's a flyer?
As for the last clue (the paining, which is rather small), from whatn I can deduce it seems to be full of Russians, so would he be a Tsarit Russian?

It is Wladyslaw Sikorski.
He was Polish.
He is a very important figure in Polish history, fought with distinction in the Polish Legions in WW1, played a prominent role in the Battle of Warszawa during the Polish-Soviet War (that is pic 3, I posted it myself recently in the general question thread!) was Prime Minister and Minister of Military A ffairs in the 20's, and Prime minister of the Polish Exile Government during ww2 as well as the commander in chief of the Polish Armed Forces. He died in a plane crash in 1943.
