I'd really like an island/small continent map. I think building along rivers is also going to be a critical big deal too for general navigation

It seems trying to make charcoal crashes the game. However, it auto-saves, and when you restart the map, the furnace is making charcoal. And then it proceeds to crash some more. Seems rather random, actually.

Bottom line: Stay away from charcoal, or at least be prepared to crash a lot.

It seems to do this whenever cooking non-food items.

Looks nicer, but continents are still way too big. One of the pre-Halloween terrain generators was very good at making archipelagos. I miss that.

So, is there no snow anymore? I haven't seen any in game with 1.8.

Too many islands but eh I'm sure that is a kink to work out and won't be a problem, I love the new map gen.

I love islands (maybe if they were a bit bigger and had a few trees). Now, it'd be nice if you could choose your starting biome.

I do to but I also like pretty maps even more :p

I believe so. However, I noticed in the create new world screen, under more options, theres a button for toggling world type. Right now it doesn't do anything, but I'm guessing you willl have to choose a snow world for snow now.

That would be kind of bad. I want my worlds to have all possibilities in them. If there is going to be a choice, it could be which biome to *start* in, but outside of the starting area, anything could go.

Tomorrow is the day, my friends!

That sucks, snow was my favorite. :( I'm kinda hesitant to believe that Notch would remove a biome in an update that really enhances biomes though.

I guess this explains many of the starts I've seen on YouTube; people being stranded in the ocean.

That would be awesome.

In 1.8 it looks like the farlands are being removed, and the world just stops being playable at 30,000,000 meters. It's not so infinite after all.

Tried it out, really liked the new terrain generation! Real cool to see definable regions of plains and forest with a clear river separating them.

I think the snow is just turned off at the moment. I've seen videos of people wandering around what looks like tundra (because of the trees).

If the winter worlds are making a comeback though I'd be over the moon. They were so atmospheric and I've been dying to play in one again. I want permanent snowfall and a sheet of white as far as the eye can see!

Hot worlds would be cool too of course. Maybe make it mostly desert but add randomly generated oases? An advanced world gen option would be really good.

I agree with all of this.

I kept restarting until I got an island in the ocean with a tree on it. Loving the new biome generation, though I'm dissapointed that I've yet to see an enderman or melons. Though I did dig a mineshaft straight down from my base and coincidentally enough had it go straight into an abandoned mine. :ack:

Also, this crashing thing after putting things in ovens is really annoying.

For the record, abandoned mineshafts are HUGE
