Nether fortresses have thus far eluded me. Does anyone have any tips for finding them?

New feature in dev versions of spoutcraft:

Hooray?

I went and tested it (and yes it is the latest version), you definitely do not get the stairs back.

Well your version is bugged. You do get the stair back.

If that's not good enough, here's what the Minecraft Wiki says.

You guys want a REAL challenge? :mischief:

Decided to leave Minecraft up and running for 9 1/2 hours (creative mode - skeleton dungeon XP trap - (mostly) 1 hit kill). I'm not sure how many skeletons were in there (over 1,000?), but it looks like it's calculating 5,000+ XP Orbs right now. Naturally, before I used throwable health potions on the Skeletons, it had between a 1-4FPS framerate, with bursts of smoothness. Granted, those lasted maybe a tenth of a second. Now it's crawling. :)

The memory did get up to 7 Gigs at one point. I tried it with just the 1 Gig allocation and it ran out of memory.

FYI - To use more memory:

C:\Windows\System32\java.exe -Xmx12288M -Xms12288M -jar "D:\Minecraft\minecraft.exe"

That never works for me :/

Just head for the nearest trees across the plains. You won't regret it. Just don't fall in any holes... ;)

Spoiler :

I was headed over to the other side of the plains since I was in a desert and plains biome (seperated by a nice river) to get some rare saplings. After collecting the tree, I looked across the little water area to get another tree, then saw some stone, thinking maybe I'll collect some stone for a pickaxe. That's when I heard bones clanging. I collected the bones, heard an arrow shot and turned around and saw cobblestone. Yep! Almost above-ground skeleton dungeon!

I made a mob farm, canal style as described on minecraft wiki. It has a drowning trap. I don't like the lava grinder because I think it's really silly when liquids are 'suspended' in the air (read the wiki article on themob farm to see what I mean).

You can see a creeper and a skeleton drowning here. The trap isn't perfect, sometimes spiders don't drown and I have to kill them myself. Also, drops from killed mobs can get stuck when its right in the middle, rare but it happens. I have some ideas about a better mob grinder but I want to complete other projects first.

I wanted to show you the spawning area but a spider is in the way :)

Next project: a portal to the nether, lay minetrack and build a portal back to the over world quite a distance away from my original base. I hope that's not too hard.
