I wonder if his code affects hostile mobs, too. i.e., Skeleton shoots skeleton that's attacking you, then that skeleton flees.

I hope hostile mobs would try to retreat after taking a certain amount of damage.

Modern gamer? Oh man you should of been around for Civ 2 release! There was a new patch almost every week at one point! Or the infamous slowdowns in super mario world.

I didn't even have the internet when I got Civ 2. I guess I must have played the really buggy version and was fine with it. I didn't even know what patches were.

A lot of NES and SNES games experienced slowdowns.

My point exactly. Buggy game releases are not a "modern" thing. Those who think so are looking through rose colored glasses or were to young to notice. Oh, add Outpost to that list of games.

In sadder news from jeb_:
You need to generate new areas. As it looks now, beta 1.9 will also require new generation

Just gets worse and worse for us server owners. Perhaps I can do 1.8 as a war world.

We've gone from me not noticing I was playing an apparently awfully buggy game or just experiencing slowdowns in otherwise okay games, to now expecting buggy releases OF PATCHES. Yeah yeah games more complicated.

This was actually about Monday/Tuesday releases, what the heck happened. I know that when I posted that complaint I told a fellow CFC member on Steam chat that I was kind of regretting that post because I would end up in a debate with Croxis white knighting the gaming industry. I didn't even have time to finish typing my message that it happened. (removed disrespectful expression). Frankly I think the companies can set their own low standards and expectations, they don't need me, their customer, to do it for them.

Bad PR for releasing slightly buggy stuff? I dunno, small companies do it all the time and their fans are still there. No matter what day Paradox or Stardock eleases their games, it's gonna be buggy, and there's gonna be the same amount of bad PR. And frankly I'd rather have them release their buggy patch on a Friday instead of waiting for them to try to fix 2-3 things so they can release a "better patch" on Monday, when the whole community is gonna end up finding a different crapload of bugs anyway. And the people who are the kind who will go on forum and do "outcry" and create this "bad PR" situation are those that have enough time on their hand to play the game on Friday OR Monday.

You know you have the power to edit your post if you expect an outcome that you don't like. Not sure what your point was with your "true story bro" with that other than being a bit rude and disrespectful.

The gaming industry is a mess. There is no institutional memory in the large production factories, big AAA titles are often just clones of the game before it, teams working in awful conditions, etc etc. It is partly why I am more interested in indi and small studio titles than anything on the usual top 10 lists. Some of these problems are newer than pre-2000ish, but to go around spouting that it is just a modern problem is just false.

Games, modern or old, are difficult to test for. A word processor is (relatively) easy to bug test. With games, especally openen games like sandboxes, 4x, and simulation, have a lot of edge cases that are just impossible to catch them all. Same things with patches for games. You think you can get all the bugs, but someone, somewhere, will do something that you did not expect. And if it is a popular game, it is going to be a lot of people doing something you did not expect. Unit tests only go so far.

According to Notch's twitter 1.8 has been leaked (by one of their testers probably). It's apparently still very buggy but available for people to use if they know the link. Notch didn't post the link though.

I'm going to hang on though and wait they've finished it properly.

I have a leaked 1.8 server running at croxis.net:25569. here is the beta beta client. Put into .minecraft/bin

The new gargamel (not running on server, just did a quick example).

Is that a floating island in the last pic? Those supposed to be there? And I think I'll wait till it actually comes out to play. If it is buggy, I don't really feel like dealing with it.

Ooh, looks like 1.8 has leaked, not that I'd ever admit that. ;) Be careful when installing software you don't trust though.

If you do use it, remember to report bugs, and to feel slightly bad. ;)

(I am fine with you using it. Make sure you get it from the leaked url we are hosting, though)

Almost sounds like Notch "leaked" it himself on purpose.

(I suspect an extremely buggy build that he wants as many people as possible to test)

BTW, seed "CFC" has a nice forest, with a nearby swamp and a tree in the water!)

Swamp biomes are neat, careful when swimming though I've been sucked into a lot of underwater caves. They also have an abundance of clay

Hah, about time. Brick is my favorite building material. It's classy.

Also, I'm going to be a coward and wait for the official update. I'm savoring the wait.
