My highest scores are:
Beginner: 5 seconds
Intermediate: 48 seconds
Expert: 144 seconds

Anyone who's got higher scores than me?

Here's my best beginner game:

And look at how mean this is:

expert: 175 sec

1 sec?

I would have really liked to see a screenshot of that! Do you remember how that game went?

The expert game you should matrix is why i stopped playing minesweeper. You can do all this hard work and in the end it't just a 50/50 guess.

I am disrespectful to Dirt! Can you not see that I am serious?

That's not entirely accurate, MrSparkle. You can really become a very fast player if you play really much (like I did) and indeed, there are some points in a game were you just got to guess (like in my screenshot). But that's the only flaw. If you end (with or without guessing), you can still see how fast you were.

MMmm, seems that there are people who can even spend more time on ms games than me

Well I once tried the expert but never completed it. In small grid, I did also something like 4-5 seconds.

What funny to try is to custom your games. Once I tried to put mines on ALL but one square. He he he. Gotta be lucky to win.

103 seconds in expert.

Unfortunately I can't prove it to you for a couple of months as it's in my old computer in storage in Canada.

But I was regularly getting 130-140 in expert level for a while there while failing a couple of university clases

. Haven't played it in three years though so I'm not sure how good I'd be these days.

You know, there's a homepage that tracks videogame high scores and last time I checked the minesweeper champ had 108. I'm sure I linked to this page through one of the Civfanatics forums, but it was months ago and I don't remember where.

Wow, why the sudden silence? Hope I didn't scare you off, Matrix

. You know, so much about shaving seconds off your score in this game depends on your mouse, your cursor speed, and so on. Have you tried tinkering with those?

Also: you do know the double-click-trick, right? If you've got, say, a "2" square and you've correctly flagged the two adjoining mines, clicking both mouse buttons at once over the 2 will clear all the adjoining empty tiles. This alone shaved a full ten seconds off my average time once I learned about it.

Anyway, keep us posted on how you're doing.

I know about the double-click-trick, g_mr_b. I actually alomst never use the single left mouse click anymore. Otherwise I have to think which one to use.

But could you tell me where to see these videos? I'm actually quite interested in that.

And I recently heard about a guy at the university who got expert in 100 seconds.

It's the lowest I've heard of thusfar.

Sorry, did I miss something? I have no idea what 'videos' you mean. Do you mean screenshots?

Sorry, I misunderstood. But do you remember where to find this homepage?

No I don't actually. What does it do? (Duh, never mind actually; I'll boot up the program and try it out myself!

Matrix, I'm sorry but all I remember about that site is that Thunderfall had a link to it around the time I first joined. I think he posted the link because this site was compiling the best scores from all videogames, and they wanted Civ players to submit theirs. It was posted in the Fanatics Centre News section.

(And I wish you hadn't told me someone got 100 seconds... I may just have to come out of retirement now

Actually it was a technical way of talking. It's in fact xyzzy. I thought everybody knows that trick. But are you sure you want it? It's a cheat that can show you where are the mines!
If so, scroll down..

<FONT size="1">With the Minesweeper game started, type in "xyzzy" without the quotes, and then press Shift + Enter. In the upper right hand corner of the desktop a single pixel will now show as white when the mouse is held over a safe area to click. If the pixel is not white when holding the mouse cursor over a block, there is a bomb at that block.

There's also a cheat to stop the time counter, if I remember.

I'll try it just to see what it's like, but from your description it doesn't sound like it would help to get a lower time. If I had to take my eyes off the board to check each square it would make my score worse, not better. In fact even if I just paused once or twice to check it would bring my score down.

You have to go really quickly to get in the low hundreds.

However, a stop-the-clock cheat would be dangerous. Don't tell me!
