I'm sorry, I just need to let it out. Anybody else upset that we got no patch with the new scenario?

I mean I think that I don't even care about the balance as much as I care about the uber-lack of Multiplayer Mod support (especially hotseat with scenario support).

It just bothers me... there's so many scenarios I'd love to play (Fall of Rome, Into the Renaissance).. and hell, even the Conquest of the New World Deluxe would be an amazing time to get the MP support released.

But I've checked on Polycast and I remember Ed or Dennis saying that the main issue with lack of appropriate support is pretty much the UI... but that was back in July (ish) so they are working on it.

I dunno.. I just need to let out my frustration, I wanna play fun scenarios and not boring monotone hotseat games.

I was hoping to start working on a scenario updated for BNW regarding the medieval europe revolving around me using it primarily for hotseat but that ain't happening.

I know there is a mod that allows mods to be played with hotseat but I do have to say that ISN'T perfect (can't rename civs, so when you meet them you get Lord Player 1 of Egypt)... Le sigh..

Thanks :P... and um... yeah.. anybody else frustrated with the lack of a patch? I know many people are crying for fixes including bugs like the know-it-all Make Peace/War thing... poor Denmark... etc.
 
Bothers me too. I'm still kinda hoping that in the next week or two Firaxis will surprise us by saying "Hey, by the way...we got another balance patch here...", but I've mostly given up hope for that. But still, there's that SDK thing with a different version number in the Steam Depot.
 
I think that the Conquest of Scenario Deluxe is almost a PR disaster.

I mean it literally felt like "Oh hey, here, have this"... and that's it.. no build up or anything.

Hell, the whole scenario is somewhat disappointing it's only good for one gameplay because it's so slow and eventually boring.

I know. I haven't the slightest clue what Firaxis was thinking in extending the scenario; even in the original things got very "Next Turn. Next Turn. Next Turn." towards the end, and it's only worse here. Like I mentioned elsewhere I strongly suspect it was supposed to be included in the "Base" BNW and someone had the bright idea to hold its release for some inane reason.
Still, perhaps the dull gameplay (I've played it through once and that's it) was why they buried its release. Though why they sort of glossed over the release of the "Complete Edition" is beyond me.
 
Yes... I would have rather seen them spend their resources and time on a patch to improve the overall game. But ...like the scramble maps... they are milking the money from this cow.
 
It's free, so I'm not sure what money they're milking.

I also don't think you can really call free DLC a PR disaster in any meaningful way. Sure, 2K marketing didn't seem to leverage the fact that they're giving away stuff very well, but it would be a stretch to suggest that most people are upset about getting free content, simply because they happened to want more.

I think Mr. BOOMBOOM was referring to the scrambled map packs as "the milking". I enjoy the small continents plus and scrambled earth, but other than that I wish they spent more resources on fixing the bugs and balance problems first.

However, I DO think that there will be one last patch between now and summer. *Fingers crossed*
 
The scrambled map packs were outsourced to Sirian, so didn't detract at all from Firaxis' ability to produce other content such as patches (although I suppose one could make a tenuous argument that the funds presumably used to pay Sirian could've be allocated to hiring someone else to do something different).

I kinda want another patch too, but I'd not be too optimistic or pessimistic about it. If there isn't another patch, this provides stability for modders to make changes. If a patch comes along later, that could throw a lot of those mods (and strategy articles that we plan to start pushing for in the next couple of days) into disarray. And for potentially not much gain, seeing as patches generally do more to shift the balance than fix it.
 
Having free DLC without a patch isn't annoying to me at all.

What is, albeit minor, is that the save game I started before the free DLC came out takes longer to load. (It goes thru the "configure game data" stage)

On the scenario itself, I didn't see any achievements on steam associated to it; so even achievement junkies can just skip it if they don't like the scenario. There are plenty of scenarios in both Civ IV & V that I didn't like, but I didn't complain that they existed.
 
Maybe what I'm feeling is not necessairly the frustration that I didn't get a patch, but the feeling of a missing puzzle piece.. like.. something was left out.

I feel that the Deluxe scenario shouldn't been released because it didn't get any new achievements OR a patch, and maybe part of me is used for both of them... or something... I don't know.. lul.
 
I think that the new scenario is awesome! I'd love to see all the old ones revamped. I'm having a lot of fun with the deluxe version than with the old one. Much more choices to make.
 
Let's hope that they haven't released the balance patch yet because it's SO AWESOME and they want to test it until it's perfect. :D

My fantasy wish-list:

* Liberty: Reduce the science penalty with the closer and/or add an additional trade route.
* Piety: Add what's missing... culture, happiness, science and/or growth.
* Honor: Move the happiness and culture off garrisons into something suited to offense.
* War: Reduce the warmonger penalty for city capture when you didn't start the war.

and most importantly...

* make it so the AI can win by t270 again so that Deity is actually hard!

Free for BNW owners. Otherwise feel free to purchase The Complete correct?
 
Or buy BNW. But again, I don't think you can claim they're milking money by making free content for the version of the game most people own. They probably hope that the scenario will add to the attraction of BNW and the Complete version, as I'm sure they hope all their content adds to the attraction of whatever it is they're selling, but milking money seems to imply some sort of underhanded or insidious business practice. Not giving something away for free.

My reference related more to Civ 5 being a "cash cow" and the introduction of the milking of the franchise with a now "complete version" with a bonus revised scenario. Any interpretation that this is inherently underhanded or insidious in strictly your own. They have every right to make money. I would have preferred, as I stated, that their resources be targeted more toward a patch or additional original content than a repackaging. The marketing trend toward "complete, gold, platinum" etc editions is useful for grabbing that remaining customer that hasn't yet experienced the product.

How wrong you are.

1. The scenario is available for anyone who owns Brave New World or will in the future, it has ZERO ties other than being released at the same time with the Complete Edition.

2. The Complete Edition is no doubt "cheaper" to buy than to buy every DLC seperately.

So it's not actually "cow milking".

Sure, the DLCs are generally considered to be cow milking but the Complete I see no way as being a cow...

But I do have to say this and I apologize in advance...

Moooooo.. sorry, I jsut had to make a cow noise :lol:
