I'm playing as the Vikings, Tiny Map, four civs, archipelago, with several mods. I conquer the Aztecs to my south, taking pretty much the entire continent leaving a rump Aztec state. I'm behind in the Culture and Space Race meaning the only two wins I can realistically see are Diplomatic and Domination.

The problem? The game started in the Renaissance and this is the first time I've played in the modern era. Right now, I have four city-state allies and I need 7 sevens total to win. I scanned the map and saw that Carthage has taken Edinburgh so I'm thinking I should liberate them and before the vote, buy off Florence from the Iroquois.

Right now, I'm rexing to get my hands on more oil and uranium I'm going to need when I finally decide to go to war with Carthage. I have a carrier fleet near my ally Signapore which can deal with the Iroquois ally, Florence and I'm going to want several nuclear subs patrolling the sea soon but I'm at a lost still. The Iroquois have a much larger military and are ahead in two different victories. Maybe I should go for domination and attack the Iroquois with whom I have a Pact of Secrecy against anyway.

I'll post some screenshots of the situation in a moment. By the way, Ironclads are useless. It seems like you get the much more powerful Destroyers only a few turns later and the difference in naval supremacy they offer is too great, especially considering Ironclads require coal.

I'm going to do something different here. Instead of showing you how the war began and all of that like many other people in this part of the board would, I'm going to show you how it ended which should indicate just how poorly thought out my invasion was.

"Look to your left and you'll see a pack of Super Mutants terrorizing a small town"

Even the atomic bombing was fail because I goofed and lost two battleships because of it. So yeah, Edinburgh is free now....and we're allies but it makes you wonder why we're allied. After all, it all started off cleanly. The battleships started shelling the city and then the guided missiles started flying into the city. My invasion force was destroyed so....

So I had to call in a carrier with two atomic bombs on it (only needed to use one THANK GOD). Wanna see how the invasion fleet looked before the situation went FUBAR?

"Reserves? Who needs reserves when you have battleships?"

What? The game doesn't reward you for landing troops on heavily contested beaches? Carthage didn't even bother responding with a fleet until....until the invasion failed actually. That submarine? Cape Town had a larger naval presence than Carthage did.

I'm one step closer to a diplomatic victory. Fun fact: At one point: Carthage fielded Knights which were prompted destroyed by shore bombardment.

Well, here's the season finale (after only one episode?).

Let me tell you about Cape Town, or better yet, let me show you a screenshot of Cape Town.

"Gentlemen. We have finally secured a source of silver."

Cape Town. The Town that can bring an ally victory (for me, it was supposed to be a diplo victory) but clearly, you can aim for a domination victory. Now, for those not keeping track (i.e. everyone), I have six city-state allies. This is going to be my 7th. My more astute readers must have already noticed that there's a UN Vote up and guess what I need? Seven votes!

Interesting though. Even though I bribed Cape Town, it turned out that I would have to wait until the next election for them to vote for me which brings me to my next point. I wonder how the Iroquois felt about losing twenty aluminum.

"They were not amused."

That must've been the Iroquois rage button for only three turns later, they canceled our Pacts but at the same time asked for open borders. Five turns later. They send the Great White Fleet to tell my ivory hunters and uranium miners hi.

As it became apparent to the workers in Haithabu that they were the first line of defense against the coming Iroquois, they picked up their arms and drilled in the countryside. Patriotic speeches were written and contact was made with the Destroyers observing the invasion fleet. This would be their finest hour I'm sure!

"Say what you want about ICBMs but it took me thirty turns to build."

I exploited the AIs only (one of many) weakness: nukes. Because it seems like the AI doesn't build them at all. Only one troop transport survived.

"All these men were suppose to retire in three days."

What happened the next turn is one of the most epic turn of events ever. In the face of global nuclear war in which hundreds of thousands of men have already died....in the face of the invasion of the island just north of the Viking Mainland....in the face of the Battle for the Sea of Cape Town....something absolutely mind-blowing happened. It can be summed up in one screenshot. Just. One.

"This must be the reason we weren't renewed for a second season."

what mod(s) are you using?

what mod(s) are you using?

Wow. A lot actually. Advanced Missiles Mod (added ICBMs), a mod that replaced GDRs with Metal Gears (like GDRs but can carry nukes), this mod, a random Carthage civilization mod, The Vikings! mod, and several others I can't think off the top of my head.
