mm20: "Say Hello to my Little Friend" (AWD)

Well I settle on the spot and start a warrior. Warriors will be useful to us to provide barb defense to allow our tanks head off. A second gems are revealed in our capital's BFC. Research into bronze working.

Ignore the barracks in the picture, it's a warrior we started.

3 huts are popped early on, giving us 50 gold, 31 gold and a map. Various animals are killed, in amusing battles as they try to eat our tanks.

We met 3 AIs and razed their capitals, but I was careful to let them settle their 2nd city before doing so. First to fall was Rome, getting 2 workers.

The Aztecs took ages to found their second city but once they did Teno was razed - 2 more workers.

The Vikings were the 3rd civilization to provide 2 slaves to our empire.

Timbuktu started a second warrior once the first was finished. Both gems mines are complete are our science is good. Amazingly one of our tanks lost half its health killing a lion. I played 1 extra turn to finish BW and show the location of copper.

This game is fun :D

The Save

We should agree with what promotions we will give our tanks. Let's avoid cover, shock, formation because they become obsolete. I haven't promoted any of them yet. I guess combat and drill are good to start, with barrage becoming useful when stacks appear, and march+CR being useful long term promotions.

Very good. With the 3 AIs having their capitols raised we should be OK for awhile to develop. I question BW before Ag and some wonder techs. Did you notice the stone to the south. There is really nothing for us to do for awhile but build wonders. We can't expand much and the MA provide more than enough protection. I would get a settler down to grab the stone and try to get the GW. Heck I would try to get stonehinge and Pyramids as well. My view for research is mysticism, masonry and then try to grab Jewish. Has a religion been founded on our continent? We could use a couple but at least 1 and our neighbors will not found 1 now if they haven't already.

This game is fun :D

There is something unusually fun about roaming about with MA and wacking everything in sight without worrying about a bad roll of the dice. It will be quite a different feel in the Industrial age:mischief: .

I think BW will be useful to us. With 6 workers, we can chop out a couple of settler very quickly. TBH, I don't think we have a chance at stonehenge, pyramids or oracle. The only one that may be possible is the great library. After agriculture I would go pottery next. We have plenty of workers to build cottages.

I remember Sooooo is fond of BW and The Great Library, even if our unique unit is an archer and we have stone nearby:lol:. I like to try those stone-build wonders, we should be able to succeed in building at least one.

But let make our capital a science-capital.

I think we should make an attempt at the Stone Wonders. They would be very useful and we might get them. It really depends what is going on on the other continent. At worst it gives us stone enhanced cash. We can chop like crazy with all our workers and have the stone on line very quickly. GW is invaluable and the Pyramids and Hinge would also be very useful. Also we need a religion on this continent. In fact 2 or 3 would be useful and working toward mono opens the wonders.

For promotions the most important are collateral damage and flanking to get to mobility. Mobility with morale with a great general gives something with 3 movement and attack on all terrain.

Got it ...

MA already come with blitz, right? That is actually the most important promotion. Other than that, the mobility and medic (esp the heal while moving) promotions would be the next to aim for I think. Guess it is obvious we want to attach our first two generals to the MAs, eh?

Can't give armor health or march promotions unfortunately

Uneventful, except for the occasional harrassing of the AIs and initial turns scare when 2 scouts appear near our empty capitol ... they have movements of 2 whereas our warriors only have 1, so don't repeat the same stunt. Hate to conclude the game within the first millenium.

The Romans are recovering fast, they already had 2 workers in the 2nd city.

Tech wise, I got us agriculture, masonry, and hunting.

The last one was obviously to get us archery. We only have 2 MAs, can't rely on them for protection if we are going to expand to the stone sites (and it is not only the AI's troops I am worrying abt, it is the barbs). Especially when we need them to continue harrassing our neighbors.

I got us started with a settler, should be out when ruff press enter. (for that matter, archery should be in as well, so you can start the skirmishers)

The biggest highlight, however, must be this:

ohh - huge tech screens! But what about the logger file?

You want to see the logger? Why? Anyway, here you go ... (BTW, you are UP, ruff)

That lion and bear put up a better fight than the human units!

and GOT IT

Kibbitzer's comment: Don't overlook drill promotions for those Modern Armor. Lots of first strikes will reduce the chances of getting heavy damage when you get ambushed by those killer lions.

Lurker's response:
@Greyfox: We never gave March or Medic to our MA's, because we couldn't. Remember that we had Medics ranging from Captain Kirk (explorer), spearman, chariot, knight.

Update: We are still alive (phew!). I've scouted out with our MAs and knocked off two barb cities. I've also promoted them along the 'mobility' track. I've settled the second city (location a mystery at the moment - see below) and checked up on our captive AIs - no further news following Fox's feedback.

Quiz - where would you put the second city? I looked at this for about 20 minutes - serious - check the log ...

I would go for G -- it gets stone in 1st cross, fish and iron in the fat cross. I like it better than F because it will permit 3 forests to be chopped and still end up with 2 surviving forests for hammers in the fat cross.
