MMORP Games

Not true! In my experience the fantasy lovers tend to be younger while the sci-fi lovers tend to be older, more mature, much better paying jobs, and much better women!

HA HA! Thats rich. Maybe someday, when you can Beam up, maybe. LOL

oh yes, you are so funny and origional, sadly for your joke the best sci-fi isn't about the technology

I was looking into playing seed, which was an interesting concept of non-combat rpg, but it was axed due to a low subscriber count.

Well, crap. I like both. Super-geek I guess. Oh well, though. I lean more towards Sci-fi now days than fantasy. WoW never interested me. I think Diablo Online would have been a better idea from blizzard IMO. But they probably feared backlash from the church and so you have Warcraft game with Diablo style charactor design.
Warhammer though, has potential to be one awesome online pvp in your face mmo IMO. It will be interesting to see their leveling system, max level, and mostly their PvP system. *crosses fingers for loot rights*

So lifeaquatic, what would you recommend for a 26 year old man?

Bah, just wait for the star trek mmo =Þ

Wow you must be the real deal, i guess you would call it "uber" geek.

Looks like he's playing on a laptop; Not an uber geek.
And besides, I'm almost 16 years old, and I enjoy both fantasy and sci-fi. And lonely I am not, so let's not flame people here.

EDIT: Woot! Post 700! [party]

No, Babylon 5 is superior. Unlike trek it isn't plagued with deus ex machina elements. (But Doctor Who also has d.e.m. in every episode, but it is much better received than star trek. Then again the 10th doctor is hot so I suppose that is why)

Oh, and I am 22 and very much not single =P

I'm interested in knowing what posters experiences with such games are. So far I've only played Guild Wars, which was fun, but not really that exciting, and I intend to try out a trial demo of Star Wars Galaxies that I have.

So far it seems to be that such games (for me) are only truly fun when you have a friend playing alongside you, and it's rare to get a proper experience (or even random team members) when online ;alone'/

So, what are folks experiences with this genre, and what should I be looking for or doing to draw in the full experience? :)

Your analysis is more or less right on. The one thing that truly makes or breaks a MMORPG is other people. It doesn't matter how cool the graphics are, how interesting the character mechanics, how many items are in the game, how many quests are in the game, how large the game world is.

If you meet cool people and manage to play with them regularly, you'll have a fun time in the game even if the graphics are crap and there is less available content than one might find on your average chess board. Conversely, if all you run into are jerks, nothing the game devs do will make it a good game for you.

Right now, WoW is probably the best game. Not because of the graphics or the character mechanics or skill the system or the dungeons, or any other reason than that it has the largest player base. With a larger player base, your chances of running into like-minded people you can have fun with is far, far greater.

I've played a LOT of MMORPG's in my day. I think my first one was either Eve Online or a Tale in the Desert. But out of all the trial versions of MMORPG's I've exhausted during my MMORPG days, World of Warcraft is the only one that I've played continuously for more than 2 months. Eve is a distant second as I occasionally resign on to Eve and quit a month or two afterwards. 'cause Eve IS a neat game! It's just fairly boring traveling from system to system. Sure the autopilot helps but it's more a game to play while studying or doing something.

Hmmm, i guess this is just too geeky of a world for me. I hate fantasy and sci fi, its for lonely 14 year old boys.

Thank gawd playing Civ IV, and Knights of Honor, is so manly and mature.
