How often do you mobilise? For me not often. I usually forget its there but I occasionally use it to crank out more units in a hurry if I want to make peace withen the next 5-10 turns and have a huge army afterwards or when I need to go to war in a hurry and need 30-40 tanks quick smart.

Its kind of like a Golden Age on tap. One day I'll play a game with a GA and mobilisation at the same time.

mobilizing is an addictive drug! It is extremely powerful and the GotM had this feature removed.

Depending on what govt I have used, I may mobilize 20 turns before declaring war.

I may mobilize after war is declared on me.

I may choose to not mobizlie and grind through a war while cash rushing buildings.

I would say that mobilize is necessary for repersentative govs but not as important for the always war scenario.

Liek kb2tvl said, I do it 5 - 10 turns before a significant invasion. This way all the initial force is in place and they will soon be reinforced. Usually after the initial fury the defender will sue for peace, and I'll demand a good settlement. If no peace, then my second wave can come in and I can prepare a 3rd. This proceeds until one of us is down, or i decide its time to move onto better things and offer then a reasonable peace settlement.

I love mobilization with a strong core of cities, one turn tanks baby. I have yet to try mobilization with Communism, the new gov I am testing out. I can't wait to see the AI's faces when all my cities around the world are churning out tanks every couple of turns.

They should not have taken it out of the gotm thats kina dum it's not a flaw or an exploit sid made it that way for reason!!!

I don't use mobilization when at permanet war cause I will need temples to make the people shut up!

I use mobilization only if I don't plan on capturing many cities. You can also use it to delay a culture win if you are milking/trying for another win.

i gotta admit i have no idea what mobilisation is...

sound real powerful, ill check it out

its at the domestic advisor thing prolly, right?

Yep. Hit F1 and find a button saying mobilise. Note that you can only build military improvements, military units and militrary wonders while mobilised.

Also a warning, you can't de-mobilize until you sign a peace treaty, so don't do it if you just want it to 4-5 turns, or don't plan to go to war...

ok,any other downsides?

dose production go through the roof?

i feel like such a dumbass for not trying it before,i went into the domestic advisor screen and remembered ive seen that button before, but thought i better leave the unknown alone!

im always at war with someone in civ3,this could be really usefull

how about the non military stuff ive started building before the mobilization?

like wonders and stuff?

You can't build non military units/building/wonders. I'm reasonably sure any pre build items get switched to military one.

Zaard,

Always remember that 'space ship parts' are considered military building for the purpose of 'mobilization' - therefore in any close 'space race game' - always mobilize to gain the added shields and speed the space race parts production.

Ision

Didn't know that. In my current game I'm planning on conquest or domination after switching to communism. I may use space race as plan B if something goes wrong.

civ3/ptw you could complete a building or wonder before building military units.

conquests changes non-military buildings over to military ones at the begining of the next turn. This includes non-military wonders.

I have a question does renegoiating a peace treaty count as signing a new one therefore ending mobilization early, so you can build up culture buildings?

Yeah, I learned this the hard way the first time I mobilized playing C3C--where the heck did the Great Wonder I was building disappear to!? Oh, mobilization.

For this reason, I rarely use mobilization in C3C (although I frequently used it in Civ III and PTW)--by the time Nationalism comes around, I'm usually trying to get some factories and coal plants up so I can make a bee line for ToE and Hoover Dam. However, it does come in handy if you're under such a serious attack that you risk getting wiped out without it.

Spacheship parts are considered military???!!? Well, son of a *&%%(%#!!! By the time I'm building the spaceship I have precious little civilian building to do (recycling centers and mass transit, but one can live without those). All this time I could have been mobilizing to build the spaceship. I'm so annoyed that I'm gonna go home and nuke somebody. Preferably the Babylonians.

If i understand Mobilization rules correctly, no no the spaceship parts. While under Mobilization you can still build military-buildings and spaceship parts and military-wonder, but do not recieve the production bonus. Only units get a production bonus in Mobilization.

I think i read that in the FAQ somewher or the CivIII Civlopedia. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

there is a war acadamy article on it, and only units are faster. I find when I use mobilization, I prefer to war against two states, so I can always make peace with one to stop the mobilization, but continue to war on the other.
