[MOD] Fall from Heaven II

My friends and I have been trying to play this for the last week and we tried Fall Further first but kept getting the OOS issue between the xp and vistas. So we downloaded the fall from heaven 34 and patch c last night, but whenever we started a game it crashed during the load. Anyone else seen this or know what the problem could be?

Having serious issues as well. I can't get the game to start with other players in it without crashing to desktop. I can only play single. Vanilla BTS works wonderful.

Oh yeah, and while playing single I have no issues. We are also experiencing the "anytime there is AI in the game, Vista and XP pro players go OOS" issue. It only happens with AI however, and when we play just players we get no OOS errors.

Something we just tested: If the game crashes, and those people who crashed reconnect to the server, they can play normally. The problem is we still can't get AI to play nice with both of the operating systems.
 
Known Issues:
1. "GFC error: failed to initialaize the primary control theme" error loading the mod. You will recieve this error if FfH isn't installed in the correct location (under Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Mods). If you don't have Civ4 installed to that location just make sure the FfH is installed in the same directory as Final Frontier, Age of Ice and the other mods that came with BtS. Also make sure you have installed the full mod and not just the patch.

Link a screen shot of the Fall from Heaven 2 034 directory and I'll check it out. You may also want to make sure your directx drivers are up to date.

If your talking about an ingame print screen, I never get that far. It just says that it has a GFC error. I need to take a computer's course.

I took control of Lord'sBelievers PC, he only had the patch installed. He wont have the error if he installs the full mod.

If you upload a savegame that takes more than 60 seconds between turns I will check it out.
 
Sorry if this has already been covered, (I don't have the patience to read 411 pages:p) but who exactly is Decius? I hear him talk about betrayl, so was he betrayed by the Bannor, then the Malakim, and now he's with the Calabim?

That has not been revealed yet.
 
Patch "d" is linked in the first post. It wont break save games and contains the following changes (special thanks to Deon for his cool buildings!).

1. Pagan temples cant be captured anymore (to fix an issue with the temple of the hand).
2. Only the Illians can upgrade to High Priests of Winter (to fix an issue with no ai min levels).
3. Fixed a python error with Ascension.
4. You have to have iron working before you can find mithril weapons in a lair and bronze working before you can find iron weapons.
5. Adjusted all the Boss monster spawns (there was some stuff on the early game list, like ogres, that was bigger than some of the stuff on the late game list).
6. The Deepening temporary terrain conversion only hits 25% of the worlds tiles and its effect is modified by game speed (for processor and balance reasons).
7. Adjusted the Dwarf vs Lizardmen lair result so that the dwarves only start with bronze weapons if the barb player has that tech and the lizardmen only start with poisoned if the barb player has the hunting tech.
8. New Bazaar of Mammon building model by Deon.
9. New Sheaim Palace model by Deon.

I just re-learned how to do this the other day, but it is super easy.
1. Press PrtScrn, the key above Insert.
2. Open MS Paint or a similar program (there are free ones availible for dl online.)
3. Press Ctrl+v to paste. Crop if needed. Save.
4. In Advanced Reply mode, click the paper clip icon to upload pictures.

On a sidenote, maybe now that the boss spawns have been adjusted I once again dare explore ruins in early game while my city only has 1 defender (playing on marathon speed I have often been overrun by high str bosses early game)

I uploaded the mod to rapidshare for all people that have problems downloading the mod from the original upload sites. I will reupload the files in a two file rar download as soon as i found the time to do so.
the download limit can easily be avoided by disconnecting your connection an reconnect to get a new IP from your provider.
Due to the upload limit I had to divide the installer into 3 rar-files, download/copy all three files into the same directory and then unpack them with WinRar

You sir, are a saint. I was never able to download the previous version of FfH2 from the other sources and have been enduring serious withdrawl pains. Now my suffering will end.

Kudos to all again for this wonderful game.

I have some similar problems to carnivore.

I was playing multiplayer last night with patch A - worked mostly fine (some problems now addressed by patches B and C) but noted that there is no prompting at game start (or when after any tech is achieved) to pick the next tech to research.

I've now just updated with patch C, tried a single player game and found ALL techs coloured red i.e. unable to research any.

I have previously played lots of Fall Further so I booted it up, but couldn't find any options likely to affect FfH (I rarely vary the options and haven't recently.) I turned off all options anyway, rebooted FfH and have the same problem with techs (i.e. all coloured red and unresearchable).
I presume this is a bug, not my setup.

Also (whilst I'm here) that, whilst playing FF (I presume this bug also affects FfH) as Elohim, I was lucky enough to have the Mirror of Heaven within 4 squares of my initial city. Every time I moved any unit onto the Mirror of Heaven, all my cities gained +1 happiness. I presume this is meant to happen only once - I felt almost guilty when I realised I was never going to have happiness problems in ANY of my cities!! :D:D

The Elohim issue is completely Fall Further, nothing similar will happen in base Fall from Heaven. And I suspect this post was from before Patch O, where I fixed some funky goings on with the Feat system that would lead to being able to do such things repeatedly.

Because I had the same slowdown, when I used Fall Further 0.42 with the "beautiful" interface (armageddon counter picture, additional bars etc.), and I asked Vehem for an original interface xml. When I replaced the new one by the original one, the slowdown disappeared. Currently, Fall Further 0.42 and Fall from Heaven 0.33 with "vanilla" interface run just fine, and FfH 0.34 with "beautiful" interface is very slow.

Also, it doesn't look like FfH should significantly slow my PC - I have Athlon 6000+, 2 Gb RAM, fresh Windows XP installation and one of the latest Asus GeForce cards...

Excuse me, if I'm nasty, but that slowdowns just give me nuts...


I can assure you that this interface and the one which slowed you down in Fall Further are actually two VERY different beasts. Kael is correct in stating that this one shouldn't slow you down at all.

The interface you had been using in Fall Further which slowed you down was handling 9 interfaces: Default Civ, new seZ, and one for each religion. Everytime that the screen changed it was loading up all 9 of them, then hiding all but the one which ought to be displayed at the time.


The latest interface for FfH though only contains a single interface, the new seZ. I did not include the base Civ interface as even an option because this interface change goes WAY further than my previous work had gone and I do not know how to make multiple instances of some of the screen pieces yet (like how to allow your progress bars to look different than each other). This is something which would be required for the entire interface to change to another type. So if you only modified the code to revert to the previous interface, it would still look a LOT different (you'd have the new color scheme, the new buttons, borders, scroll bars and progress bars... probably a few other things as well).


Anyway, summary is that I learned a lot about how I was causing the slow-down in performance when you and others first brought up the issues with Fall Further, and I put all that learning to work when I designed the code for this new interface to ensure it wasn't obtrusive :)
 
At turn 389, the Mod stopped working... I found Heroes of Might and Magic V in somewhere in the Civilization folders inside the menu. Could that be giving me trouble?
