Hello,
I'm trying to run the WOTM 21 for warlords...I have warlords installed via steam. I just installed the HOF mod for warlords. On load it gives an error that says "the save file you have selected is protected to ensure that the assets in your mod folder have not been changed", load failed. The only posts regarding this that i can find are very old. any ideas?

Thanks

If you do not have Beyond the Sword then you have to update your configuration using the DLLs that would be installed by it. There is a note about this near the top of the game release page - the one where the download links are:

Windows Players: If you have NOT installed Beyond the Sword version 3.13 or 3.17 then you either need to do so, or you need to replace the CvGameCoreDLL.dll files in your Civ4 and Warlords \Assets\ folders to emulate this installation. Download the replacement files here.

Well, I have exactly the same problem but with BTS. I have a new laptop, installed BTS and played BOTM 13 yesterday and saved my game. Today, I want continue my game and I'll get the same error as above. I changed no settings or didn't install other software in the mean time. I reinstalled everything, but without any result.

Something *must* have changed in your Civ4 BtS configuration. Please run through the check list given in the FAQ on the GOTM web site.

Thanks for the link to the FAQ, I dunno how i missed that...i ended up uninstalling everything, then installing civ4, updating civ4, installing warlords via steam, installing bts, manually updating bts, installing the HoF mod for all 3 versions, and I still get the same error. So I ran AssetChecker and here is its jibber-jabber when warlords is selected:

Still no idea how to fix this...could anybody upload an unlocked version of WOTM 21?...i dont really care about having a legit save, just wanna play...

It looks as if there is something wrong with your CvGameCoreDLL.dll files. I suspect a bad update. Are you sure you have Civ4 version 1.74, Warlords version 2.13 and BtS version 3.17?

We can't provide an unlocked copy of a current game until it is over. If we did, unscrupulous players could use that to explore the map, then play a competition game using the locked save.

Once the game is finished and the results are published, you can find a link on the Results page to download the WorldBuilder save that we used to create the starting saves. You can put that file in your My Games->[Civ4 or Warlords]->Saves->WorldBuilder folder, and run it, with or without the HoF Mod loaded, by selecting Play A Scenario from the main menu.

Yeah, the versions are right...I changed paths and everything for the re-installation...i guess something in the registry is mucked up or something...

Since I dont intend to submit my results...perhaps i'll play old games of the month...then i can get the unlocked versions, and see how I stack up the instant I'm done

oh well, thanks anyways

I have the same problem as WeezelDS. I have run through the check list in FAQ. I have uninstalled all CIV's installation removed all traces of CIV on the computer, reinstalled CIV vanilla, warlord, and beyond the sword. Upgraded with latest patches and installed the latest HOF. But I can not load the start save games for GOTM 37. I get the message "The save file you have selected is protected to ensure that the assets in your mod folder not have been changed."
I have tried to run the assets checker, and there I get errors on all files. I enclose a report from running the assets checker.
I do not understand that I get errors on warlord and BTS, but I am able to load save game from these two version without getting error messages. I am also able to load Games in HOF mod from vanilla without getting error messages.
The only thing I can not do is to load start game for GOT 37. I have now spend so much time trying to locate the fault, and trying to correct that it now drives me crazy. Can anybody help please.

How did you install the latest patches, and in what order?

I recommend that you install them from the download links on this site, not from the in-game updater, and that you install the vanilla 1.74 patch first, then Warlords 2.13, then BtS 3.17 last. This will ensure that your DLLs end up as the correct BtS versions.

You mention 'HoF Mod' in the singular. There are three HoF Mods, one for each variant of the game, and you need the correct one for each variant of xOTM that you want to play. Your error listing does mention all three, as well as earlier versions, but I'm not convinced it is giving a true picture.

Your AssetChecker error listing is confusing. I've asked the HoF team to have a look at it.

It looks like you ran an older version of the AssetChecker. You want to use version 2.1 for the latest versions of the HOF Mod. You can get 2.1 here: http://hof.civfanatics.net/civ4/mod.php?show=assetschecker

One thing that seems to help with strange AssetChecker results is to run Windows Update. Sometimes there are optional updates you want to get that automatic updates don't install. I am not sure if it is the .NET DLLs, the Checksum code, or both that gets updated that has an effect.

Hopefully that will make the issue a little clearer.

Ran the asset checker, no errors for BtS, but I still can't run the BtS HOF anymore.

Note: I don't get any error messages when I try to run the mod. What happens is that BtS self-exits, with nothing in the logs.

Are you saying it was working before but isn't anymore? Did you change something on your machine? By logs do you mean the logging provided via the Civilization IV.ini file? Also are you trying to open a GOTM or just loading the HOF Mod via advanced menu?

Can you start a regular game?

Yes, it was working before, and I didn't change anything. It suddenly stopped working while BtS was running. A HOF game was running, I tried to load another save (I was looking for screenshots) only to see BtS quit on me. After that, the HOF mod never worked again.

Double-click on a GOTM save: nothing happens.
Advanced menu to load HOF mod: BtS immediately exits.
Load GOTM save from main menu: BtS immediately exits, or pc freezes.

In none of these cases, anything is entered into any log (ini or other).

Regular games and non-HOF mods still run fine.

I uninstalled and reinstalled everything, to no avail.

The only cause I can think of is that some Windows update is incompatible and interfered right at that time.

What version of Windows? I'm running a XP SP3 Virtual Machine, with Windows auto-update enabled, and everything works OK. So I'd be rather surprised if there are Windows updates that can kill the HoF Mod.

Do you have logging enabled in the CivilizationIV.ini file in your My Games/BtS folder? You need:

; Enable the logging system
LoggingEnabled = 1

In the Logs folder you will then see a file called PythonErr.log after you try to run BtS again. That may give us a clue about what's going wrong. There's also a file called init.log that I've not spent any time looking at, but it might have some info if your BtS is crashing before getting to the Python stage.

I have Windows XP Home, fully updated.

Despite LoggingEnabled=1, no PythonErr.log is created.

Normally I get a PythonErr2.log, but that is not renewed when I run the mod. The same goes for xml.log.

There is nothing unusual in the init.log. A resmgr.log is created, but it is empty.

I deleted and reinstalled the mod itself several times, of course, with no effect.

I have a similar problem, but I can't run the Assetschecker.exe at all.

I get the error message "The applicaton failed to initalize properly (0xc0000135). Click on OK to terminate the application"

Windows XP sp3 installed, civ version 1.74, I think I have installed a couple of mods directly into the civ 4 .dll file, mainly the unoffical patch, no other mods. I also have the BAT 1.1 and BUG 3.51 installed for BTS.

I have the original dvd in drive for Civ 4, game loads, HoF mods loads, but asset checker doesn't. Mod notifies me of invalid game for HoF,

Also strangely I can't access the capital city interface either, I just played a game, testing out the options, but it wouldn't give me the interface for the capital, just the map around it.

You said before that you get no BtS errors from the Asset Checker. Do you get any other errors when you run it? BtS uses the Vanilla assets as well.
