Mod help: nix Monastery obsolescence

I'd like to keep building monasteries past Scientific Method, which currently obsoletes them entirely. I'd prefer if Scientific Method would just lose the monasteries' 10% science boost. Can this be done ?

You can remove the obsoletion in the CIV4SpecialBuildingInfos.xml file, with the <ObsoleteTech> tag. Just set it to NONE.

This will allow you to keep building it and will keep the 10% bonus. I'm not sure how to remove the bonus and keep the building from going obsolete at the same time.
 
What if I copied each of the 7 monastery bldg definitions (one for each religion) to 7 new ones. Then for each of the new 7 definitions, I'd delete the part about 10% science bonus, and then have each new monastery bldg only be buildable with the discovery of Scientific Method (which is what obsoletes the old ones), and these would never go obsolete.

This way, I wouldn't be changing any existing stuff, just adding 7 new things that work the way I want.

I guess I can read up on the building mod steps in the forum posts... but does anybody foresee a problem with this approach ?

You'd need a new entry in CIV4SpecialBuildingInfos.xml making them become avaliable at Scientific Method and not become obsolete. Apart from that, I don't foresee any problems.
