Hello guys this is my first post. I just got a very cool idea for a mod but I think this is not really possible. So just hear it out for a tasty food for thought.

Do you guys notice how near the end of the game the acient civilizations (e.g. Romans) often coexist with the moderm civilization (e.g. American) ? Sure it's fun gameplay-wise (like the random map generation) but wouldn't it be cool if they civilization could evolve into different civilizations or several ones merge into one?

Technically merging is possible already because of the introduction of cultrual assimilation. But breaking a civ apart into several ones might be interesting in a historical perspective.

Imagine if you are the English or the French and have established some terretory in the New World, but the corruption issue and such makes it hard to develop the new cities.

If the player favors maximum efficiency instead of enormous empire, he could be given the option to give the cities away.

In the current state of civ 3, giving city away to an established civ would not be ideal because you just give them more chance to grow.

However, WHAT IF it's possible to break those cities apart and make an new AI controlled civ (such as American or Quebec or the Dominion) in the mid-game? What if the Romans crumble into 3 or 4 civs and you pick one to play in mid-game?Wouldn't that make the game more varied and intersting? (but of course people will be banging on the monitor if that happens involuntarily.) ;)

But I repeat again, it's not really possible since it involved a lot of changing the core engine of the game. But a scenario would be good enough with the pre-determined script.

What do you guys think?

You mean granting independance?

If so, it's a great idea. It would be similar to what sometimes used to happen in previous incarnations when you captured a capital city.
If there was a way to make it quite rare I think it would be good if occasionally, due to civil disorder, a starving population, etc... the affected city/cities and one or two neighbouring sympathisers 'broke away' to form a new civ (maybe it could only happen after nationalism or something).

Is that what you mean?

Yes yes that's what I'm talking about. The "break free" of the starving cities are considered involuntary breaking, while the "granting independence" would be considered voluntary breaking.

But then, we need some random generation of leader animations :)

Actually this idea has already been implemented in two games that I know of, Call To Power & China (A Civ clone produced in Taiwan). The only catch is you must have lots of available Civ (CTP has like 40 to 50??) and the program will just pick a random Civ for the breakaway city. It would be good if Firaxis can provide the community with more Civs and let us just patch the Civ3mod.bic for the new Civ. In fact, it would be enough for them to create new UU and Leader's flc for the new Civ and anyone who wanted it just add the new Civ themselves (this is easier than patch as due to the fact that new units etc can be added freely, Firaxis will not be able to patch those files with additional things already added)

Civ 2 had that and it was quite cool.

China (A Civ clone produced in Taiwan)

Hmmm I didn't know there were civ clones like these around, but I bet it's in Chinese. Funny though.. Taiwan makes a game called China.

It's quite cool thought if portion of the civ breaks away due to unhapiness in a real huge civ
