Mod Question: Would it be possible to add more empire emblems and colours?

I've glanced at the files in HK folders briefly, but couldn't find anything obvious, how to expand the current selection of available empire emblems and colours. I have some colour vision problems, so quite a few available colours look too close to me, and I'd like to have some sharper and more distinct options.
Does anybody know, how/if it would be possible to add more emblem patterns and colour variants to the game?

Assets are packed, there are tool to unpack them already (I've not tried them), but I don't know if repacking with modified assets is possible at this moment.

But that will surely be possible once the modding tools are released.

We made a mod that adds 24 new empire (faction) colors. There is also a tutorial that shows how to use the mod to add your own colors and remove colors you don't want. It is HERE.
