[mod] TOTAL REALISM 2.0

Have I missed something? What is TAM ?

So many were talking about it before, I have no idea what it means.

Warlords has unique buildings, so maybe in the warlord patch it would be possible to have unique pantheistic temples for each civ.

TAm is ancient mediterrean mod...very good mod by the way

Any update from you?

I wish to play your awesome mod and cant wait to begin my first "real" game;)

I've been experiencing this 'CTD' thing too - playing as Spain @ Prince level, about to finish off Germany in TR Earth map, before any sort of bombard unit has been developed AFAIK. On version 2.1.1. Don't know what turn it was though. I found a similar thing as China at war with India (Noble), but this happened considerably later in tech and turns; using trebuchets I think.

Sometimes I have been able to play for a little while longer by deleting the cache files, but it's just delaying the inevitable really...

Love the mod, a shame this keeps happening. Onhly thing I can see that is consistent with all repotrs is that there is a war on somewhere in the world (when isn't there?), and that all European powers seem to have have massive stacks in their cities early on.

A+ PDT
BK

i had CTD on a custom map. when everybody was in peace with each other, and barb where switched off. So its got nothing to do with war (unless war is being declered after i finish my turn)

any sign on a ix or somthing like that ??

it's so annoying to have thig bug in this great mod !!

thanx

Ankenaton,

Be cool, friend of old Egypt :) . I don't want to be aggressive... I know about TAM, i had tested it. One of the best mod. Some good ideas such as the use of differents kind of metal as promo bonus or the Timber ressource for boat building. Even if you are nearly right about these old religions, it would be easier to add a more standard old pantheistic religion. I let you imagine if a guy that loved Celts ask for the celt religion, and an other for Scandinavian one, and an other for the American Natives one,.... It would be impossible. For my own, i would loved to add old religion, to saw them dying to be replace by new ones and so on....

The Frog.
No worries Froggie, I don't get uptight these days. Just hate to see Mother Egypt dissed (i.e. neglected; put down). I know a proper balance will be found. Don't worry I am not giving up "French Fries", even though you guys mess them up by putting mayonaise on them instead of "Honest to God KETCHUP".

How bug free is TAM?
Both time playing as Arabia has crashed around the 128 turn mark

Is there a one proven empire I can play that never crashes ever?
Does the mod work multiplayer direct IP?
TAM is pretty bug free; but you can not play as Arabia because it did not exist as an organized state, during the time of the mod 5000bc to 600ad. In Civ3 you could play as Arabia, but not in Civ4. The mod is pretty stable but you have to follow the install directions closely. It does work in multiplayer Direct IP but only on vanilla Civ4; it is not yet Warlords compatible. We at the TAM site have a multiplayer game every Saturday. There is a constant addition of new features, units, and nations; it is a constantly evolving mod like this one. There now is a separate sub-forum on TAM in CivFanatics. See you there; now lets concentrate on TotRealism 2.0

The Ancient Mediterranean Mod (e.g. TAM); where you find ancient empires slugging it out from 5000bc to 600ad. It focuses on the cradles of civilization. It has its own sub-forum on CivFanatics, go there if you are interested in playing a game through from the era of pre-dynastic Egypt to the Fall of Rome.

Hey guys,

Houmie is back from France. Wow you guys have written a lot. I wished I had prepared the new forum so that we had some sort of order in these posts. Some are very useful for game improvement and some are useless. Anyway I have read til top of page 89 and am already very tired. Very tough week for me at my new job.

I do not understand the French hating posts here going on. I also found it very distateful, that someone was happy that this time 'others' than Americans are being 'hated'.

As far as I have brought up discussions about USA in the past, I never EVER have said or read any post by someone else that Americans as people are hated. Criticizing the American Government in its foreign policies which affects Millions of other human beings, doesn't mean that Americans as people are hated. Therefore I disliked the post about hating French very much. Hating French foreign policies is one thing but why hating French people?
Anyway lets close this here please and focus on the mod. I have even less time than before to work on this mod, so lets stay focused.

Besides I am back from a French Wedding over weekend. :D I have drunk, feasted and danced til morning hours and didn't have much sleep. It wasn't my first French Wedding I went to and I must say it really depressed me at the end. I have chosen the wrong part of Europe to settle in. I should have chosen South Europe. Man these ladies there just are so beautiful and have so much class. dark curley hair...HHhmmmm Damn Damn why do I live in London? Why have I neglated my French in highschool? tough questions...

Houman

Let me tell you the five greatest cities (meaning the chicks) are: New York, London, Paris, Berlin and Toronto. All five are world cities, meaning that each is a United Nations of colors and ethnicities, where a guy can date and....a girl from Armenia to Zimbabwe. Living in one of these five is like a kid who is given the keys to a candy store...yummy.;) ;) ;)

Glad you're back mate!

By the way, I was looking through Dale's combat code thread, and it looks like he's finished uploading all code for the mod for both vanilla and warlords. Check out the post here:
Dale's combat code thread

So maybe you can implement the Stack combat now? :mischief:

From the modern perspective the retention of a highly conspicuous colour such as red for active service appears inexplicable, regardless of how striking it may have looked on the parade ground. It should be noted however that in the days of the musket (a weapon of limited range and accuracy) and black powder, battle field visibility was quickly obscured. Bright colours enhanced morale and provided a means of distinguishing friend from foe without significantly adding risk. High visibility did not become a matter of primary concern until the general adoption of rifles in the 1850s followed by smokeless powder after 1880. The value of drab clothing was quickly recognised by the British Army, who introduced khaki drill for Indian and colonial warfare from the mid-nineteenth century on. As part of a series of reforms following the Boer War (which had been fought in this inconspicuous clothing of Indian origin) a darker khaki serge was adopted in 1902 for service dress in Britain itself. -wikipedia.com

before the 1850's(the "rifle" was created near 1850's) they used muskets, I like the idea of redcoats graphics being for rifleman and musketmen though.
i have read this and cannot understand why .i think they are rifle men because
faster reloaded(major improvemnt from muset)
fits cronalogicy
(on civ muskets come with gunpowder around banking in real life redcoats was around steam power)
during the english civil war the new modal army was muskets and pikemen and neiter side wore red

ps im guessing your agiast the change

That's exactly what i think. Not all Americans are stupid, fool, warmonger,... neither the British or Polish.... or French. Disliking their leaders, their policies about what you want (war, foreign, education...) could be understood but why hating all the people ?

Poor Houman ! I really understand your problem. Never neglating a foreign language: it's a lesson i had already learned. I did the same mistake with my Spanish....and i often went in Spain, where i can't communicate..

Did you read the posts about religion ?

I have a question. Why dont you add polish civilization and few others to this mod? ;) You can surley use stuff from a polish mod that is out on internet. It has graphics, unique unit and all.

I have heard its because the tide of civ requests would never stop. Maybe they will add them a lot later when they are happy with the core game.

Leper unit
Another idea i had was a leper unit. Requires 'beggars quarter' that although it gives you penalties -2 health, -1 gold, it is extremely cheap to make, 20 production, and would then allow you to send the leper stealth unit to other civs (unit could use hindu swami model). Each leper can join an enemy city and add -3 health or turn one of the population to lepers, which would be the equivalent of them going on strike. Or it could do both. But it would be great, it would add another dirty trick to use against your enemies. Fill their glorious cities with lepers and then we'll see how they fare.

umm, not to be a downer, but I'm not sure that idea really fits into the idea of "total realism".

not that there aren't lepers, but I doubt you'd find any record of anything close to this happening, especially directed by one gov't at another.

disease certianly happens and spreads from one civ to another, but not in the deliberate way you discribe.

How do the green promotions like Avatar and Hero in the civilopedia work? I've heard it's a random chance that any unit will get those promotions, but it must be an absolutely tiny chance, since I've played 6-8 TR domination/conquest games and haven't ever gotten a green promo. Do these have to be so rare? I want Avatar so bad I can taste it.

Also, a suggestion: The [Civ] Leader units that heal and give your armies strength - What about experience and/or promotions for them as well? I know they don't fight, but maybe for every battle that's won while they're in the tile they get experience that can be translated to bigger bonuses for the army they're with, allowing you to customize them to be the 'city raider' general or the 'defense' general or what have you.

I've helped work on a mod for half life 2 and I know from experience that no matter how many awesome features you add random people are always asking you to add more. Clearly I'm being one of these needy random people now, but I want to say that even if dev of this mod stopped this instant and you guys added no new features and fixed no bugs, TR would still be the best mod out there. I'll never bother with vanilla civ again.

(Oh yeah add a unit promotion tree/chart in the civilopedia)

Erm, That would have been me posting that comment-
I'll take it that you were just tired and didn't catch that it was a light ribbing I was throwing out to everyone and anyone who wants to post about other peoples that they don't really have a clue about- Yet -the majority of the time its me reading posts on those 'lousy-evil Americans <- you know the story. So I had to comment- :P

It's all opinion anyway- no difference in what your favorite color or Music style you prefer... It's how these things make that sole person feel-
So if someone hates France or the French -or someone states that the USA sucks- then fine, I refuse to let it bother me anymore- so far Iv'e been sleeping better at night!

Or maybe it's because I havent played civ 4 total realism due to the ctd... :P

So I keep getting stuck in the "waiting for other civs" loop. The first time, I uninstalled/reinstalled everything and started a new game. Same thing. Seems to always occur somewhere in the vicinity of 300 turns. Fiddling around with the worldbuilder, I found out that if I deleted all the units in one roman city, the turn finally resolved. Whoopee! Then a few turns later same thing. This time I found out that if I deleted all the units in a Malinese city, the turn would resolve. Yay.

A few turns later, and yet again the same thing. This time, I found that when I deleted all the barb cities/units on the same continent as regular civs, the turn would resolve. Now, It's doing it again, and I can't find any combo that works. I even deleted all the civs(except one unit from one civ...the complete kill option was checked) and it didn't work. I even deleted all of my own units(including workers) and no dice.

At first I thought there was some kind of unit action thing going on, since when I deleted the units, the game started working. But none of the units that were deleted where unique, no GP, no Inquisiters, Informants, etc.

So I figured that deleting the units must have changed the way the AI reacted to something, or threw that city into unrest, preventing some other event from occuring. Since I can't get it to go away now, even with only one unit in existence(a "foreign" unit) and ALL cities destroyed except one of my own, it still happens. There must be some underlying problem with the game itself. Another weird thing...when I play TR Earth map, it's CTD....when I play TR custom map, it's "waiting for other civs" loop.

I'm really bummed out, I was eagerly trying to get to the undustrial age to check out the helicopters. :p
