As always, enjoy.

This doesn't have anything to do with Civ4, but it irritates me so I feel I must adress it. Also I haven't smoked a cigarrette in 36 hours so my level of irritation over the statement is far more intense then usual.

GarretSidzaka in this episode you state that "Slavery wasn't the cause of the Civil War... It was more about States Rights". This is a false statement and shows a lack of historical knowledge or an intentional desire to ignore the facts due to cognitive dissonance. It is perfectly understandable for a child or teenager to make such an assertion, I would have myself when I was 12, as it shows a historical knowledge of history beyond the basic black-white moralistic premises of a young child. However by the time you're an adult you should realize all the state rights issues were directly caused by slavery, all the confederate states clearly lay out in their declarations of secession they are seceding due to slavery, and the vast majority of the popular arguments found in southern media revolved around slavery. To put it simply you can extricate any other cause from the civil war, such as tarriffs, other taxation issues, and federal laws from the civil war and no rational person would conclude eliminating such individual issues would have resulted in no civil war. Yet you cannot extricate slavery from the civil war. If you remove the institution of slavery from the arguments and tensions of the time, you are left with nothing, and no concrete cause for secession. Finally had the southerner's really cared about federal authority superceding state authority, where was the southern outcry over the Dred Scott case. Sorry the assertion that the south was more for limited government, and against federal overreaching is just empty rhetoric. It's much like today where conservatives pine about state rights, and government intervention, yet at the same time support state intervention in reproductive issues, drugs, and Sports. It's not that the confederacy at the time had a problem with federal authority in general, it's that they had a problem with the direction federal authority was taking, ie the south knew institution of slavery was being put in a vice and slowly squeezed by federal law, and the squeeze was only going to get stronger and pressure added faster if nothing was done.

To put it simply. The southern economy needed slaves to maintain it's socioeconomic organization, and the south felt the only way to maintain their "way of life" as a result was secession.

snap you got me

i agree with you and admit to oversimplification

personally i feel that the civil war was a major step in america becomming the superpower it is today.

edit: are you quitting smokes? if so good luck

Damn straight. I think someone deserves a smoke after that one... :mischief:

And lo and behold the "Southern Party" still pulls the same crap today, and people buy it. Things really don't change that much do they?

I just listened to the modcast, how much time elapses between recording and release? Because Ekmek mentions we are working on the Alexander Project and that thing happened a couple of months ago!

yes i give an explanation on polycast77 about the delay. i have been swamped with a new house, new baby daughter and was hoping someone would cover me. but alas everyone else was busy too, so the show had to wait. there will be one more episode that is lagged behind, then i plan on starting new recording soon. we also have a new co-host, Maniac from Planetfall mod :)

i hoped you still liked the episode despite the delay.

Excellent. I love this show, its funny, yet informative.

Its edutainmenting!

or is it.... entercational?

Maybe his name is Eschroeder. His leaderhead making tutorial PDF lists "eschroeder" as the author.

Seriously. Wasn't this supposed to be up like three or four days ago?

oh and...

@ Garret: When I finish my mod can I plug it on Modcast?

Well I was mainly asking about plugging my mod, which probably won't be out for another month and a half or so, I am in the process of putting it together and doing playtests with the group that is helping me. So I'd rather be on at that time, but if you need someone else to be on I wouldn't mind doing it at all, just let me know the specifics.

its usually better to come on the show before you are 100% because people might submit art or somthin after hearing the show. i will set you for 2 weeks from next sunday, will dec 6th work?

pm me please
