Hi all

My its my 1st post on the forums and I'm completely new to this kinda stuff so forgive my ignorance in advance.

I have just the standard Civ4 (vanilla?) with the most recent updates (no add-ons)

I had an idea to make a scenario for myself using the world builder, which is why I'm keen to get a little more clued up about these things.

I was hoping to do a "Gulf War" scenario. Is there any way I can "borrow" the built in "Terra" map, with all resources etc but remove the southern hemisphere completely, and limit the map from NY city to half way accross China in a "cut and paste" type way and build the scenario from there?

Also is there a way to create new units based on the normal ones as I would like to have a broader spectrum of planes and tanks to represent the technological gulf between Iraqi and Coalition forces?

I did create the "goldrush" scenario from the tutorial instructions (which are posted on the forums) it worked nicely but perhaps I'm trying to get a bit too avanced a bit too soon. I have no idea what XML is apart from the brief notes on the "goldrush" tutorial and I have an awful feeling that this is likely to be pretty complicated.

I'm probably trying to get way too complicated for my current ability of "modding (which is zero)" but any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Ben.

Paying attention would help you alot. If you look around, you'll notice that in this forum, each new thread is an individual modpack. Also there is a red announcement on this forum stating this forum is not the place to ask questions, and instead is for releasing modpacks.

Be nice to him, it is his first post.
Welcome to the forums.
What you want to do can be represented in a scenario with some minor XML modding. For a map, I'd reccomend you look in the Premade maps forum, there are alot there. For adding a new unit and other XML work, there are numerous XML tutorials in the Tutorials forum. If you need any help, just PM me. XML is really easy. All it is is editing a text file, almost all of what you want can be added via copy and pasting entries with a bit of editing.
Good Luck.

There is also a lot of artwork on the forums that you can use, some of which is really good, if you don't want to use vanilla graphics.

Welcome to the forums, bjwhite.
