What is the earliest that anyone has been able to get to the Modern Era??
I've gotten to it by 1550 a couple of times (tech Electronics) w/standard map within last couple of days. Once with France and another time Spain. Difficulty level was pretty low (whatever the default settings are). As for policies, I had yet to adopt Scientific Revolution so Future Era is probably not far away.
I would be interested to see how others have been able to get to this point early in the game.
For France, the fact that I had 2 culture per city really helped. Equally helpful was having Fountain of Youth NW close by when going to war. Still several civs to conquer on another continent.
For Isabella, discovering 2 natural wonders right off gave loads of $$ and so I was able to purchase my way early on. Had about 50 science per turn at around 2000 BC I believe and was at Renaissance by like 175 BC. Then was able to found a city on a much larger continent by around 100 AD (next to a NW). This triggered an immediate war with two Civs.
