Modern Infantry Units

Well that settles it. Imma devote a whole scenario to Comrad Ramboski.

Btw, Desantniki not use AKS-74U en masse, they use AK-74M and AKS-74 (or newer). So your one may be used as an officer in combat.

I did that for two reasons.

1. Most paratroopers use a shortened carbine version of their nation's standard infantry rifle.

2. Wanted to give him something different so he wouldn't look exactly the same as the standard infantry. Also, Ares had to work hard to find AK-74SU sounds.

You are right.
But there is a small difference that annoying - big number of AKs that named not so different: AK-74, AK-74M, AKS-74, AKS-74U and so on.
AKSU(AKS-74U, AKSU-74 - three names for one thing in many sites and books) is short and with folding stock, used by Police(former Milicia), some security and not so wide in army. Because of extremly short barrel this weapon is not accuracy as other AKs and it loses in long fire combats (more than 1-2 clips) - it loses firepower and accurasy dramatically. Overheated it "splits" bullets but not shot. Also, short barrel means flame is near a soldier's face.
AKS-74 means folding stock but normal barrel. Usually, desantniki prefer long barrel ones. But, not always, so you are right.
And, thank you for your high-quality units once again. Without you Civ3 (mostly for XIX-XX centuries) woukd not unleashed its own potential and power.

Amen, Hallelujah!

Finally got around to test all these excellent units in game... They all look splendid!

Comrade Ramboski is definitely my new personal favourite among modern units! This is a unit with character and individuality, and cool to boot. One hell of a good job! :goodjob:

PS. The Bulgarian has the Polish death anim.

The Bulgarian problem has been fixed. I think I know how it happened. I just copy the storyboards en mass from one unit folder to another so I don't have to make new individual flc files every time. I then just save over the pcx with the new storyboards for each unit. I must have copied them from the Polish folder then just forgot to save the BulgarianDeath storyboard over the older pcx file.

It happens. Thx for the quality check.

Tons of new infantry posted in Post2. Ares worked hard on the new sounds too.

(Still  ) - BTW, "NVA Fallschirmjaeger" (or did Ares name this one? :mischief: )

Best Again,

Oz

Yup. Fallschirmjäger der Nationalen Volksarmee der DDR.

(Paratrooper of the National People's Army of the German Democratic Republic)

Excellent! more Vietnam units. Thank you very much

Okay, generic PKM team, Czech paratrooper.. and updated Chinese 1960 without the helmet.

Coming soon, Polish Para.

Sorry for the bump, but all these excellent units really deserve to be bumped!

So I won't apologize for the bump, but I will apologize for that it took me so long to download the last of these and really use them in-game. Comrade Ramboski is still a favourite of mine!

When running them I noticed a few errors:

* Modernized Eastern Block Soldier uses the Victory.flc of the Modern Russian

* NVA Fallschirmjaeger is missing its Victory.flc

* Cuban Soldier uses the Death.flc of the African Rebel

Otherwise they all really look splendid in play! :goodjob:
