Modified Scenarios Workshop

An older guy in my building was fighting in the Falklands (and yes, he says the British gathered up "volunteers" from other Commonwealth countries to help them there, something I didn't know, nor do I know under what official political banner they were, as they were all officially independent except ceremonially from London at that point).

I'm not aware of any commonwealth units fighting in the Falklands other than the Gurkha Regiment, though I guess it's possible there may have been Canadians or other CW personnel in the Marines, Paras or Guards. I know in Afghanistan British army units often include volunteers drawn from the Commonwealth, especially the West Indies, Africa and Polynesia. However, the force assembled for the Falklands task force had no time to wait for volunteers to assemble. They would have to have been in the British army already. This is AFAIK. I'm not making any allegations but I have seen a lot of videos on You Tube from the UK and US of 'Stolen valour' and I have certainly met a few of these kind of Billy Bullshitters in pubs over the years.

EDIT: Completely unrelated to this subject, to this thread and everything but I just thought I would share this excellent track from Australian group Redgum: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Urtiyp-G6jY I discovered it whilst reading Max Brooks excellent novel World War Z, in the interview with an Australian astronaut. Enjoy!

Does sound a bit billy bullsh1t unless he was SAS or SBS which have certainly had Aussie and NZ SASR troops on operations with Brits. Do the Canadians have SAS? The land forces contingent troops were Paras, R Marines, Gurkhas, Scots and Welsh Grds, which as McM says were the units available and ready at very short notice.

Today Canada has JTF1 in a similar role, but I don't know what it' antecedent unit or older name would have been in '82, off-hand. I have a cousin whose a Major in the Canadian Forces I could ask, but I likely won't see him, given his schedule, 'till around Christmas time.

I wouldn't like to cast aspersions without more information but the story does sound fishy to me. I guess if he's not parading around in uniform with a Falklands war medal and he doesn't tell everyone he speaks to all about it then it's probably not worth making waves. If he is bragging about it and it's clearly untrue then he should be taken to task. I have seen those stolen valour videos on You Tube and they really piss me off!

Corrections and Canadian Special Forces:

Alright the quick and dirty as it relates to Canadian Special Forces:

WW2:
1st Special Service Force (Devil's Brigade) CANAM Formation
RCN Beach Commandos (W Commando)

Cold War:
Canadian Special Air Service Company (Short life span)
Canadian Airborne Regiment (Quasi-Commando)
The Special Service Force (Quasi-Special Force meant to reinforce Canadian Commitment to NORTHAG)

Post Cold War:
Canadian Airborne Regiment(Disbanded in '95)
Joint Task Force 1 (Initially designated for Gulf War, no known action or formation)
Joint Task Force 2 (Counter-Terrorism and Special Forces)
Canadian Special Operations Regiment (Similar to Britain's Special Recon Regiment)
427 Special Operations Aviation Squadron
Quasi-Special Forces
Canadian Joint Incident Response Unit (NBCD or CBRNE for you younger folk)
Enhanced Naval Boarding Party(Maritime Tactical Operator)
Reconnaissance Qualification (Army)

Note:
JTF-2 was initially formed to take over from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police's Special Emergency Response Team

Well, in any case, I don't think my pressing this older fellow will help too much, as his physical and mental state has deteriorated from what it likely was in the early '80's, whether his claims are true or not, due largely to lack of personal care it seems. Rest assured, McMonkey, whatever truth or not may be in his claims, he's not parading around in uniform on November 11th or bragging in bars - I don't think he's long for the world. I had initially not questioned him too much and thought it was an interesting sidenote, but pressing him in his state would make me feel like Torquemada. So, we'll let the issue drop at unresolved, but possibly a delusion of past grandeur.

That's fair enough. You never know, he may be telling the truth. The world is full of strange life stories. If he's not making a big deal about it then there's no reason for you to, especially taking into consideration his advancing years.

The new Fairlane's units have generated possible changes and improvements to various scenarios. I keep waiting for it in expectant. :smoke:

Gapetit, the unit represented by the warrior IFV should be a Scorpion light tank I think; this is effectively the same vehicle as the one next to it (the Scimitar) but with a 75mm gun rather than a 30mm cannon. I'm not sure why Acedemia had 2 units representing the same formation (the British Blues and Royals recce sqn) but no matter, I'll make up a Scorpion version.

Sounds good Fairline. I will look to add more units armed with anti-tank and Gurkha troops for British and Navy infaneria for the Argentine.
Following your instructions I modified the light tank. I think the scenario has graphically improved a lot. ;)

:mischief: Fairline forgive, but I was wrong to add the unit: the unit is SBS that you'd already made. And to do the correct translation of your text I understood you'll do the FV101 Scorpion. Thank you. :hatsoff:

No worries mate, feel free to pick and choose whichever units you like :)

Here's the Scorpion light tank:

I can make small modifications or more units and events, but I miss the time when you (or Tanelorn) were doing complete graphics of certain scenarios.
