Modified WWII Pazific Conquest

@ BrianLO3

Thank you for posting that!

It seems that the files were corrupted during the forum upgrade.I tried to load them up again, but this isn't possible anymore because of reduced max. attachment size.As soon as I found enough time I will figure out a way to post them again.

oh no
and i was looking forward to playing this.
i just played the standard scenario as the usa and won...much too easily.
during the initial japanese strike i lost all the posessions except manila and everything east of wake island.
the AI kept attacking manila with 2-3 units and they lost each one of them because gradually i had built up enough mg batallions to make it impossible to take.
i just built light tanks, tons of transports, and an escort and sailed to tokyo and took two cities in japan (including tokyo) before it told me i had achieved a VP victory.

I found a solution for the downloads by loading them up to my yahoo map.The link is in the first post - I hope it works.I use the process of making new zip files for a very small update, because I have forgotten some railroads in 1.1.

Yes, this was the reason for me to remove VP scoring - it is simply to easy. You may try my modified conquests, but you may find playing the USA still ore even more (depends from point of view) too easy to play - you will surely spend more time for an victory, but you have the economical long-time advantage on your side.I mainly developed this for playing Japan...

The main problem is the poor AI if it comes to combat, exspecially in naval invasions.I increased capacity of transports and try to provide at least the USA with enough units, but of course it is still not a real danger.

i am in the process of modifying a rather large ww2 map and i tried the transport capacity angle - attack transports with capacity of 25 and aircraft carriers with capacity of 16.
even though i had given germany 65 panzers and over 160infantry, what shows up on the british isles? a measly 5 infantry and a panzerschreck to be cut to pieces.

This is bad news.I had still a bit hope to get round it with giving the AI big transports or simply enough of them in combination with a lot of units.Have you tested the extrem situation - giving the AI alot of units and enough transport capacity in one single city? There is also a need for escort ships since Conquests...I think I will have some tests on this issue for the next version.
I seem to be possible that the AI lands more troops-some players have reportet invasions with 20+ units, but its kind of rare :(

I wonder why it doesn't seem to be possible to program a turn based strategy game with an AI good at naval invasions.Alpha Centauri, HOMM, Age of Wonders...why it is almost impossible to be faced with an military threat if you have water between you and the enemy? In RTS games this isn't a problem - I got many times crushed in Age of Empires II or Rise of Nations by enemies which were located on a different continent.

er, how come the download doesn't work?
i clicked on the link and it went to a german(i think) site.
then i clicked on the link for "WWII Pacfic Conquest" which loaded another page. but the download didn't come up.

Hmm, you are right, for some reason the files only show up if I log in and have access to the briefcase as owner.Linking to the files means the folder is empty... I have set the status for the folder as "public", so this can't be the reason.I will conatct yahoo about this...sorry for the inconvenience :(

EDIT: It shows that Yahoo has disabled the feature of public access for the content of briefcases.
So I tried the easy upload system, but for some reason after the upload was finished, the files didn't show up on the civfanatics server.I would be glad if someone, who has sucessfully uploaded files, can give me step-to-step-explanation what to do

oh thanks a lot for posting this.

u once asked abt how the AI responds to increased transport capacity and sea movement and i was too hasty in concluding that it didnt know what to do.
i was trying to remake a WW2 scenario and during testing, the test scenario has developed into a whole new scenario that i love to play a lot. i have now seen numerous examples of the AI landing a 25-capacity transport full of units. i cant find the link to post screenshots but when i do i will post them.
there's lots of examples of proper naval invasions.

it also seems that when i took out culture flipping and the diplomatic and space ship wins, the AI now captures and keeps cities in far off places.

VP scoring - u can always edit out the multipliers and suddenly that 50K will look very unattainable. give more weight to combat wins and u get a lot more gore.

and i did find the screenshot upload so here's a screenie.

in the evolved scenario i have taken out railroalds but road movement is now 10.

This I call really good news.I will have a few tests on my own and probably include much bigger transports in a further version. The only thing I worry about is it makes transports a very valuable and vulnerable target. But still better than having an AI landing only 6 units each time...

that's one HELL of a Civ3 directory you have there. finally downloaded your scenario, looks like a heated battle, just need to find the damn time to play it.

Hello <---(new to the forum)

Much of what has been posted here makes sense. There is, however, another needed change that has apparently been overlooked. In the original WWII scenario that comes with Conquest, I noticed that both sides have to research Advanced Flight before building fighter/bombers. At the time of Pearl Harbor, the Japanese attacked with Zeroes, Val dive bombers and Kate torpedo bombers. The US had at the time Brewster Buffalos (on Midway), Wildcats, SBD Dauntlesses and Vindicator torpedo bombers (Devestators came out shortly afterwards). I was thinking of adding these myself at the beginning of the scenario. Then for the Advanced Flight tech adding Corsairs, Hellcats, P-38s, Helldivers and TBMs.
One other note, although I may be getting too technical here, is changing most of the US battleships to WWI Dreadnaughts, found under the Units Forum. All in the scenario were vintage WWI dreadnaughts. Although the Tennessee was launched in 1920 she resembled the WW2 battleship design (but with 14" main guns). The next battleship launched was the North Carolina in August of 1941.

Just a thought.

@ Wofrem

Thank you for your input and welcome to CFCs!

I'm planning to update this scenario again (on of the main chances will be probably bigger transports, I'm currently testing this).Perhaps I will add some units, too.At the moment, I'm rather busy with work, so I think it will take some weeks.
