Mods on great older games

So I'm bored and want to play one of my older games, but I'm tired of the same old thing. I should buy a new game, but I'm cheap, and don't feel like going to the store. There aren't many newer games that interest me anyways.

I'm itching to play an RPG right now, but I'm wondering if there are any good mods for older rpg's (of say the past 10 years) that could spice things up. Some rpg's I have right now are Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, NWN 1 and 2 (and all expansions), KOTOR 1 and 2, Dragon Age (no expansion), Morrowind and expansoins, Oblivion (although I don't care for this game much), The witcher (never finished this game), and I think that's about it. Many of these games do have modding capability, but I haven't played many mods from them. I don't know which ones are good. I'm looking for gameplay/story changes, not just silly things like weapons and armor.

What I really want to play is another game like Planescape:Torment. I'd love to see some game that had a mod similar to that style. The witcher supposedly is in that style, but I just couldn't get into the witcher that much. Atlhough I may finish it some day. The problem I have is when I leave off of a game (and it's been over 1 year), it's hard to get back into it. And I don't feel like starting over. NWN2 expansion was pretty good too for that style, but I want more. I'm hankering for a good, dark style rpg right now. I'm up for recommendations.

It kind of sucks being bored of all my old games and not interested in new ones.

Not going to happen ;) .

Although there are tons of mods out for Baldurs Gate 2; or there was at least. Including one that merged BG1+TotSC into BG2+ToB so it was all one ridiculously long game, that should last you a good long while.
If I remember rightly it was even possible to install some other mods along with it to make the two original games even longer.

I followed this guide for the Baldur's Gate games, missed installing the widescreen patch though but oh well.

It also has links to guides for Arcanum, Deus Ex, jagged Alliance 2 and System Shock 2 though I haven't looked at those yet. I already have an install of an ultimate version of Arcanum that I did after I got the game off of Good Old Games and don't know if its the same thing or not.

Yeah, BG2 had some great mods. Check out sites like PPG and Gibberlings 3. Been quite a while since I played, but back when I did, TuTu, Kelsey, Unfinished Business and the Banter Packs in particular are must haves.

There's also Neverwinter Nights (original) that has like a crapload of mods. Basically the game is made for mods which are all like new adventures (if companies released these they'd charge you and call it DLC). There's like infinite replayability, provided you like how the game plays to start with. And of course, the stories aren't gonna be on par with Planescape... Well maybe I dunno, some pretty talented people make mods.

There is a "Mod" for Oblivion called Nehrim that's basically an entirely new game. I haven't played it myself yet, but it supposedly focuses more on story and traditional RPG gameplay.

That might be interesting. I did end up replaying the Witcher. I just restarted from the beginning. Damn I played through that game fast. I'm always in too much of a hurry to get to the end. I play obsessively until I finish the game, and then I'm bored after I finish it. I should take my time and enjoy it more. But I did try to read most of the journal entries to really get involved and immersed into the game.

I like Neverwinter nights, but the combat tended to be kind of generic. I'm not sure why. And the campaigns were the same way. It was a great attempt at bringing pen and paper campaigns into computers. When it first came out it really had limited tile sets. I should check it out now, I'm sure there are a lot more that give the game more variety.

As for BG2, I wasn't aware of any that changed gameplay (into a different story). I'll have to look into some.

But I may have to break down, and actually buy a new game. But I'm just not aware of any good rpg's that have came out that I have missed.

edit:
I find myself in the mood to play more of oblivion and maybe even finish that game one day. I but I really need mods to make that game playable. I'd love a mod that made leveling up to more that of a traditional rpg. If Fallout 3 can have regular level up system, why can't Oblivion? The only mods I tried before were like the KCAS mod which wasn't much better.

Oblivion XP

A few off the top of my head:

Oblivion Mod Manager

Unofficial Oblivion Patch

Unofficial SI patch

Unofficial Official Mods Patch

Natural Environments

DarkUId DarN
If you don't like how dark it is I believe there is a lighter version of the DARNified UI.
it also comes in BLUE and BLACK & GOLD.

Keychain

Oscuros Oblivion Overhaul 133

Unique Landscapes Compilation OMOD

I also highly recommend checking out mods for adding hair styles, better bodies, and other character customizations and improvements.

Also a great resource for excellent houses:

Some that I found that I have not played but sound cool:

Better Oblivion Sorting Software - BOSS

Amazing Jump

Clocks of Cyrodil

Natural Faces

Streamline (performance improvements)

Oblivion Stutter Removal (requires OBSE)

ImpeREAL City - Unique Districts

Alien Slof's Aundae Vampire mod is awesome. It's a much more holistic and enjoyable way of playing a vampire and you even get to keep your mortal face! :)

I endorse "Deadly Reflex" as a combat mod for Oblivion. There's also a nice mod for starting as any character you want by the docks of the Imperial city (not stupid cutscenes and "You're him...the one in my dreams").

The good things is I found some mods and expansions I somehow missed. I'll eventually try to finish Oblivion one of these days, but not today.

I guess I kind of stopped following NWN1 and NWN2, despite more material being released for both games. I stopped playing NWN1 shortly after the Hordes expansion (although I did play a little bit of the dlc called premium modules before I stopped), and had no idea more quality material was released. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darkness_over_Daggerford

I stopped following NWN2 shortly after Mask of the Betrayer, and didn't realize 2 more expansions were released. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neverwinter_nights_2

Now I need to install both games onto my computer...
