Monarchy or Republic

Nah - he means that you can choose to build warriors or riflemen at the same time, if you never researched feudalism. Warriors cost much less, and every time you research a tech, all of your cheap warriors immediatly upgrade to riflemen for free with the Workshop wonder.

The riflemen could be disbanded for more shields than you paid to build them - kind of a perpetual motion machine??

This is definitely a sleaze of the sort which should be disallowed in MP, in my opinion.

Oops! I missed the fact that there is a second page to this thread!

Also...
Did someone say that The Great Wall actually provides the city wall effect (like it used to in Civ I) as well as the already-good stated effects? And (I extrapolate) the provided walls are invisible? And you can still build the city wall improvement (unlike the way Sufferage and the Pyramids work?) - I assume as a waste of shields? That sounds like a nasty and unbalancing bug! I guess I've never tested it because I don't use that wonder much...
Again, based on the assumption that no one finds and slaughters all his warriors first.
Sleasing of this nature is a risk.
