So I'm Catherine on a large Earth map, not Dale's, but seemingly most of us are very near our respective real-world locations. I'm in Russia, and my neighbors are India and Greece.
At about turn 200 I'm ready to wage war against Alexander who is expanding his empire a little faster than I care for (as usual). I'm going for a domination victory, and I've probably waited too long as it is to address the Greek threat.
Shortly before going to war with Alexander, I sent a settler towards the Bering Strait in route to the Americas. I want to get my foot in the door now so that I don't have to deal with embarking units on enemy territory later in the game. Based off of scores, I already knew that there were two weak empires and one very strong empire in the Americas. Red flag right?
My little settler in his sailboat got no further than Eastern Alaska before coming across Munich. However, Bismarck was not there to welcome me to America. Instead, Montezuma pops up on the screen, face painted and looking all kinds of intimidating with fires burning in the background. How does he welcome me to America? He tells me that he is looking forward to feasting on my beating heart... I nearly soiled myself.
This was my first world map game and at the same time it was my first encounter with Montezuma in Civ V. I was so excited to finally sail to America and then upon meeting Montezuma I actually considered sending my little settler straight back to mother Russia.
I love this game.
