Monthly Competitions Submissions Thread II

I've seen a few leaderhead competitions with only one entry. I'm wondering, would it be better in the interests of everyone if the leaderhead competition was merged with the PCX competition? Maybe call it the "graphics mod" competition? There are some really nice leaderheads being submitted and it seems sort of a shame that many of them simply win by default. Just a thought.

I don't think the LH's should be grouped with the PCX's, they are voted on for different reasons.

Maybe the category should be non-unit animations. Myself and others have had animations that could not be entered because they were not a unit and couldn't be grouped with the other categories: example, hot air ballon's animation to replace fireworks.

Hmmm... ,then the HOF's would be messed up.

Could we carry on this discussion in the other thread. http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=306885

Pounder, please see my note added to my submission post. I would like to retract my entry in this month's competition as I don't have any other previews than the run. I don't have any additional animations in the thread for the unit either so I don't think it is fair on the jury not to see the whole unit.

Thanks.

I believe that most people agree that the preview doesn't have to contain all the animations, the unit must be usable and ready for download, the intention that Flamand had in the rules was one preview file (not multiple files) and the preview can contain one or all of the animations.

If the unit is usable and available for download, leave it as is and don't withdraw.

I agree with Pounder. People can always note that there is only one animation previewed, so it does not matter. They could also just dl the unit and test it.

I just changed the rules wording because you are not the first to question the preview:

-The new file must be available for download for the civ community.

Unit makers: Upon submission a single preview file of selected unit animations needs to be provided!

Thank you Pounder, but my concern is that most people probably judge a unit by the previews and not by the downloaded unit. So having only the run animation, few people are going to be able to properly judge the quality of the unit. I didn't take that into account when I submitted it. I don't have any other animations in the unit thread for it either, at least not for the "sharpened" version of the unit. So I think in all fairness it should be struck from the competition.

However, in it's place may I put this unit? I'm not as happy with it but at least I have all the animations.

Hmmm... rule #2 is pretty clear on that.

2. Only one submission per person per competition will be accepted and only one preview file per submission will be accepted. Once submitted neither the submitted file, nor it's preview can be altered. A submission can be withdrawn though, but not replaced by another file.

In that case I think withdrawal is best. Next time I'll be sure to create more than one preview.

Leave your Unit in Gary!... the truth is that of the people who Vote in this Competition, most, if not all, have the Units and also understand that a preview is just a preview...no matter how many animations it has.

OK. Since there don't seem to be any objections I'll leave the kriegsmarine in the competition. Thanks. I apologize for the oversight on my part.

Hi.

I'm interested in entering my new city graphics in this month's PCX competition. These city graphics contain a few 'alternate versions', and I'm wondering if those alternate versions could be considered as part of that entry, if not unpermissible.
If not permissible, I would like to know what would constitute an acceptable entry.

Thank you. :)

I'd say that since complete terrain sets have been entered in the past and won both the monthly and annual competitions, even though technically I think the competition was supposed to be only a single item.

So, there doesn't look like there was ever a line drawn.

I would say there should be no opposition and that you should definitely make the entry of the multiple versions, it is the culmination of the work you did on these cities.

Could you just make a single pic for the preview with both versions in that pic.

Thank you, Pounder, for the clarification and the green light. The reason I asked is because the versions are all part of the same download, which could have made things complicated.

As for the preview, do you mean something like what I have in the thread linked above?
