More airpower (projects&ideas)

Noooooo!!! PLEASE make the F-35 JSF, its the last thing I need and is an extremely important plane to go along with your F-22.
 
Well, since this has become a request list I'd like to request the F9F Panther (there should be a thread somewhere 10 pages to the right since no one cares) first and foremost.

\Here's a list that you can probably knock out in 25 minutes:

-F9F Panther (Korean War naval ground attacker)
-F-4 Phantom (bbbbbb be bro quality plz...vietnam era multirole fighter but ought to be used as interceptor)
-A-6 Intruder (Then a naval based ground attack plane, later on a platform for a bunch of nerdy jammers)
-Mig 27 Flogger (vietnam era ground attack)
-BAC Lightning (first british supersonic fighter/60s)
-Mirage F1C (french 70s fighter: can be used for France, Ecuador, Greece, Iraq, Libya, Marocco, Quatar, Jordania, South frica, and Spain)
-Alpha Jet (french used it as a trainer but the germans used it as a strike fighter)
-Su 25 Frogfoot (russian ground attack)
-Chengdu J10 (Chinese fighter)
-LCA (Indian interceptor)
-AMX (Italian/Brazilian ground attack venture. 1988 it is introduced in but it might pass for something from the 60's or 70's)
 
Well, that´s a nice list. I certainly could make a lot of them, but as said, the next weeks/months I´ll concentrate on finishing my mod. So this would need longer.

What I´m doing soon is probably releasing slightly resized versions of the EF2000 and the Su27, because this was requested quite often and is less work than creating completely new units.

Over the long run I´ll also rework my first jets (F14/16/18) since the quality isn´t on the same level as quality from newer jets.

For some from the list them I already have models ready or begun.

Question for the F4 - Navy or AirForce (blue-grey or green-brown ;)) ?

nah, the green brown camo is fine cuz i plan to use it as an interceptor. although since you made 2 camos for the rafale you could do the same here but a whole new plane, the A-6, would look better than a just a new cheap camo version :)

BTW, I'll edit the list to links of what the planes look like soon if you have trouble recalling and to provide a semi-preview for interestees

Yup I'm a monomaniac!!!
At least until the JSF is completed! Then I can relax and stop requesting new units (maybe except the Tupolev Bear).
 
snsfro, currently I have nothing ready for a JSF, and when I restart aircraft creation I´ll begin with those I have already material for. I have nothing against making this unit, but currently I really can´t say when.
 
What weapons will the A-10 use in the attack animation? It has a pretty good payload. When you redo that F-18 and F-16 are you gonna make them bigger? I'm sure you have already consider sweeping the wings of the F-14 forward on the default and back on the attack anim. Well great work you've been doing here. All I really care about is the F-22 and thats done.
 
Well, there are unfortunately some limitations for aircraft anims in Civ3. Not only that you cannot have fidget or victory anims (victory anim is used to display the bomb anim), you also cannot have as much frames you can use for land units. When you create an attack anim much longer than 10 frames, you have to edit the in-game speed for the unit to make it move slower, otherwise the last frames of the anim are not shown (or much too fast).

Also, the attack anim is only displayed once, before and after Civ3 plays the run anim (sometimes multiple times) when you see a plane attacking. So an attacking aircraft is basically displayed in the following way:

..... run anim > run anim > attack anim > run anim > .....

Sometimes the combination seems a bit more difficult, but the attack anim always is only played once. So in these 10+ attack frames having a plane sweeping his wings back or other details (eg. I wanted to let a fighter role while attacking) is nearly impossible, because this would run simply too fast in 10 - 15 frames. Also, since after the attack anim there is again the run anim displayed, the plane´s look would change suddenly again back...:(

The A10 I fires some rounds of the gatling gun, then it launches a sidewinder, since the attack anim is exclusively used in air combat. So when you set the plane up as bomber-type unit, you´ll see this anim only if the A10 manages to down an enemy interceptor.

When making a bombing run, Civ3 only moves a plane over the target (run anim), then displays the falling bombs next. I´d like to have modern planes launching LGBs JDAMs or Mavericks, but since Civ3 doesn´t have a special anim for ground attacks it cannot work this way :(

I´ll release the A10 in the next minutes with a preview of the attack anim :)

Edit: oh and yes, when I rework the F14/16/18 I´ll make it so that their size is similar to newer releases ;)
 
Interesting... So since the run anim is only used when the plane is being intercepted or is intercepting another it could also be used as part of the attack anim. The only problem being the plane that is shot down would be firing in the wrong direction. I could look strange.

How are you planning on implementing the A-10 in the game by using the editor? I'm thinking it should be cheaper and have better defenses than the heavy bombers with lower range.

Yeah somehow this way. One could also play around with "lethal land bombardment" since the plane´s gun and payload can have quite devastating effects.

As said in the rease thread, I couldn´t test him in the game so far, therefore I don´t have thought out concrete combat values....;)
