More Histograph attempts

I'm using Republic all the way in this game, and you can see from the graph a few posts up that I suffered a bit from WW-ness, but I think I can reduce that by more concise conquering. I tend to start the war just a little too soon, before I have enough troops for an efficient blitz. I need to practice with the other governments in other games before I dare using it in a milkrun, far too many hours to be wasted in case of a failed experiment...

in my current hof-hopeful game i went monarchy for the first time. i usually use republic. wanted to get away from war-weariness and take advantage of the unit support. unit support came in real handy for the approx. 925 units i had at one time in the game. have been able to research at 4 turns since about a third of the way into the middle ages and all the way thru to modern using only scientists. never done that before. and never have hit the 512 limit until this game. a lot of firsts for me.

I've started a couple huge Emperor archipelago maps.

The first I did the more difficult monarchy slingshot. (For anyone puzzled, it is research writing, CoL, Phil and trade for CB, Myst, and Poly to take monarchy as free tech instead of republic.) I abandoned that one in the 370AD. I wasd was researching invention. I had 15% territory, 34% pop, and 1862 score. I had just finished taking out Eygpt securing the continent. I had already pretty much fill up the continent and colonized part of another continent.

The second, I wanted to go monarchy but couldn't find enough of the other civs in time for trading to work. It is now 340AD. I am researching metallurgy. I have 16% territory, 44% pop, and 1993 score. I just finished taking out Arabia, but am nowhere near taking the continent. There is one civ and a lot of unclaimed land left.

Note: The rabbit head looking land to the north is attached, including the eastern "ear". The wrap-around with Egypt is also. :D

Both were inland, 3 cow on a river starts with 4400+ dom limit. The second had more room to expand and therefore a later GA. The first had much more difficult and drawn out fighting yielding 5 MGL. The fighting in the second lasted around 25 turns. No MGL and WW was starting to become a problem.

I didn't set out to compare governments and I'm pretty sure that the comparison isn't scientific enough to be definative but it sure it interesting. :)

Well, I downloaded the calculator:

As you can see, it thinks I would just squeak by Moonsinger for 3rd place.
I based my estimated 5th place, 37,750 score on a .5 point declining trend in my per turn score that I found by looking at the graph data from CRpViewer. More data points, less optimistic outcome. I am not sure which is more accurate.
After starting and abandoning 3 or 4 more arch maps I decide to finish the milk on Pangaea map. The final score was 38,874. All I can say is never doubt Sir Pleb! :worship:

I guess this is worth posting, even if wasn't as good as I had hoped. All the abondoned maps have put things in perspective. Not to mention I haven't submitted a game in ages. :)

Well done, Denniz!

That new map you've rolled would drive me insane. I don't like to leave rivers and I hate settling on food bonus tiles. I still don't know where I'd go with that start!

I just checked my lastest MF haul.

=1000 words.
A very very good start indeed, even with the marsh and mountain to start with. Your in a whole herd of cows there, i'd give it a go. It looks like you have jungle to your east and marsh to your south-west. Clear them and you have a very good settler factory and late game milking-machine.

I'd be really suspicious about that start. The marsh and jungle take significant time to clear, and would really hamper setting up multiple pumps. If I did anything, I'd move the worker on top of the mountain first thing.

Well done! :goodjob:

I just passed the 1750AD mark in my game so I still have many turns to go. I can tell it's gonna be close... But, as said before, I'm not going to quit, after so many hours spent on this game. I'll keep you posted, if I can get to my machine tonight, I'll post another graph.

Good luck with your next attempt!

By scarificing the river I could get to two factories. The wheat to the north helped.

I probably won't finish this one either. Way too much jungle on this continent. I am pumping out settlers but there aren't many productive city sites.

I have a more conventional 2 cow on a river start with a 4465 dom limit.

Here you can see how nice it is to have an 'pelago map, those  sea tiles!
I hadn't paid much attention to that tab. Here are a couple data points for comparison from my pangaea map.

One thing I can say after a number of archipelago attempts, archipelago maps are much tougher to play. I may have abondoned some of them prematurely, as it looks archipelago maps peak later. The more I try to match Svar's game the more I begin to appreciate just how good a game it was. I will be interested to see if you can catch Svar. Good luck.

You might want to upgrade to 2.11.0. The food tab is pretty helpful. :)

I have to rethink my most advanced archipelago attempt. The one where I ended up using republic.

Arch2 -1240AD @ 50% of territory:

I have been inpatient with my progress vs. the other games. Massive war-weariness and lack of pyramids have made this attempt seem less viable. (I would definitely advise not to play republic at this level.)

As you can see, my pangaea was a really good start. Unforetunely, I peaked early and barely hung on to get a 3rd place score between Mazarin and Moonsinger.

In light of Space's game, my republic-archipelago map (Arch2) may be worth playing further.

@Space, I have attached the graph data, if you want to incorporate into your comparisons.

Thanks for the data and the good wishes, Denniz. I don't think there are enough turns left to really catch Svar, but I too am curious to see how close I can get. Realisticly I'll do well to get to 39k. See also my 700 point deficit compared to your pangeae game at this stage. I'm trailing Svar by 2800+ points still, catching about 5 points per turn, with some 200 turns to go.

edit: Here's your per turn increase compared to the other games. It makes it very obvious that temp cities are needed to keep up in score. I wonder what your score would've been if you had used them. Note that I have added 'real' turn numbers to the graph now, better late than never...
