I haven`t found the answeres for those in the faq or elsewhere on this site. Maybe someone can help me.
The first thing is war weariness. How does it exactly work? Is it just being in war or does it come from losing troops, having troops far away from home, ect? And how fast does it disappear? If I end a war, and start a new one the next turn, does WW carry over?

Second question concerns armies. I have read that certain combinitions are stupid. I generally put only one type of units in an army.
But I was thinking if mixing wouldn`t be usefull. Say e.g. 2 mediveal infanteries and one pikeman. The problem seems to be that most defensive units would slow the army down, until the arival of mech inf. Still, an army of 2 tanks and one mech inf seems nice to me.

You have pinpointed the reason not to mix - Armies will move at the rate of the slowest unit. If you have a mix with the same movement, then it is not an issue. A mix with tanks and mech inf makes sense. Combined arms works in the game the same as in reali warfare!

I recommend you always use the same units in armies

For me its always cav, tank, or MA

I never use defensive units because I have never seen the AI attack a full strength army

They will attack them in cities. I usually make at least one Infantry army if I need a foothold city on the AI's continent.

The Ai will not attack green armies in the field. Sometimes attacks yellow armies in the field and will attack red ones, if it feels it can win. IOW it won't attack a red army of 4xMI with a single weak unit.

They will attack armies in a city, especially one you just founded, no matter how many armies are present. I had 10 4xMI armies in a beachhead town and was attacked. The city had about 150 MA's, 50 RA's and other units and they still came. The stack was ignored, until I founded the town.

Mixed units in an army is not my norm, but has uses. The two biggest are when it is the first army created and you have limited choices, especially if the only 2 move units are horses. I may go with Sword Sword Pike, I prefer not to mix speeds. The other time is when you get the Pentagon. Now you can add a fourth unit and I will mix speed at times then.

Say 3XCalv may get an MI to make it harder to kill. Speed is no longer a concern as rails are up and the army is not attacking cities any longer. 3xTank may get an MA or MI, whichever is available.

I have used others on a rare occasion, such as adding a rifle to a 3xMusket, but it is more likely I would disband that army in favor of a new one.

Thanks all, that was helpfull.
And while I`m at, can I check my reputation in the game?

Try buying 20g for 1gpt (make sure you lower science/lux if necessary to get your income positive). If your advisor says they would never accept such a deal, you've harmed your reputation. If you ask for the deal, they'll tell you who you broke a deal with. You can try other per-turn agreements (ie ROP, MA) as well.

When AI civs have the flight tech, they will build bombers like crazy and will use their bombers to bomb your armies.

AI Civs + Bombers = Crazy. They will bomb every unfriendly that moves within their range. But then again, so would you or I. It makes late industrial/modern warfare more interesting. :D

Anyway, once your armies do lose some hit points, they will attack it in the open field.

Yeah. Duh. But they were talking about only putting tanks and crap when the dude asked what to put in they didn't ask what age he was in.

In the medieval age, you should try to put knights in your armies as they become 4.3.3 or knight UUs like the chinese rider which becomes a 4.3.4 which is truly insane.

I don't know if it's good to mix def/att in army.. The "1" attaqk of the pikeman make those 2 swordmen less powerfull. When one unit in army attack, he takes some power from others units (attack value, not def one). I don't remember the exact % but it's somewhere in civfanatics (perhaps in the war academy, army)

Yeah. I donj't get armies that often. I think only twice. I usually rush great wonders, but with military leaders I make army

yes but what about defence in your army?

I have made ancient army out of many units. Some mixed, most not. The best is AC, but you have to have SoZ to get them. Sword armies are common and very useful.

We were mostly talking about adding in a fourth unit after the Pentagon and that rarely occurs in the ancient age or even middle ages is not usual. Understand that much of this is on emperor and higher levels were the AI will have more production and hence troops to kill.

I will crank out an army with my first MGL at least 95% of the time. I want the army to offset the probable superior units I will have to face and their often higher numbers.
It has a bonus of letting me start on the HE. Yeah, it is often not worth a lot, but I play mostly sid and I want all the armies I can get and I want to get to the Pentagon asap. I may leave the 2nd or 3rd army empty until I get better stuff.

I will mix non horse type armies in the ancient age, especially a very early army. This is because I have very few unit types and units are not readily available and I need to fill the army and use it.

It is correct that if you stick in say an archer into a sword army, it is less on attack and defense (when the archer fights), but it is better than just 2xswords. This is because you can lose that army with only 6-10 HP. Most likely 8 HP, so 4 more HP will be huge. Much of the fighting on offense or def will be done by the swords anyway.

I have, though it is rare. And if the AI also has an Army, it's much more likely to attack. A defensive Army is also very useful for guarding a large stack of bombard units. Since you don't really want to attack with it anyway, you might as well use defensive units.

Also, if the army is guarding a town the AI must capture, the AI will attack even a full powered one.

IIRC, in Conquests, you can only make armies with military leaders...

You can only make armies with leaders in all civ3 games, until you get the MA. The difference in C3 and PTW is the leader can rush wonders as well.

The ai having an army is so rare as to be ignored. The ai will attack any and all armies in a city, that is why I said in the open. I had 10 MI armies in one city this week and it was back by lots of units, but they sent in attackers anyway. I think I had 50 RA's as well. If you make a town in their land, they will attack.
