It's getting to be clear that the problems with T&L are so seemingly random in their various extents. There are, if I'm not missing anything,
1) "Cheshire cat" syndrome - only the eyes/faces of the leaders are visible, the rest is black, game still playable.
2) Black Screen - everything is black, not playable in the slightest
3) Mixed black terrain - units and resources are visible, the rest is black - only slightly playable, because it hurts your entire being to play in such a manner.
I've seen enough posts to indicate that there are reports of either "2" happening in itself, "1" by itself, "1" and "3", and just "3".
For example, I have problem number "3", using a Geforce4 440 graphics card (32mb), and the rest of the game is just fine. Oh, and the american revolution mod works perfectly for me - absolutely no problems at all.
I wouldn't go out and say that this is a bug, but there's an obvious inconsistency - possibly with regard to fog of war, which is why so many people are having limited success with modifying the xml file to give full vision.
So if it's not a graphics card issue, but it's "fixable", what in gods name is going on? Any ideas here?
