Anyone else think the Preview edition ain’t as good as the former Morpheus client?

Remarks:
Lower limit of connection is actually the number of connections you get. You would believe that not setting a restriction would give you a lot of connections.

Lesser search results - well perhaps not lesser but not as relevant.

The absent of choosing to search for only: media, documents software, mp3 and so on. And more precise search for image resolution or mp3 quality.

Not having the option to choose to search for more files from the same user

and more....

Of course it could change when we get V2.0 but I am not to pleased with this version.

Not that I am a Morpheus user, of course, but...

It stinks. One of the reasons I liked Morpheus was that it wasn't on the Gnutella network, for all the reasons Vonork listed. Fewer results, harder to download, slower (for those of us with dial-up connections), and more difficult to filter files. In fact, thanks for reminding me Vonor; I'm going to unload it right now.

I just switched to Kazaa. Too bad it has spyware, but I've got another program (Ad-aware) to counter-effect that. :)

I hear you! The preview version gets a big [punch] from me.

Yes, I'm a modem-user, takes me for f@$%ing ever to download anything!
I find it kinda reassuring to hear that I'm not the only one who thinks it's crap now.:aargh3:

Since I'm not much into MP3s, I don't use Kaza/morpheus/napster/etc... at all. On the other hand, I would warmly recommend DC edonkey and maybe Hotline. Also in the news I've heard about something that looks like a IM, that has interoperability with MSN, ICQ, Yahoo and Napster. So you can chat and do several sharings at the same time. Don't remember its name though, gotta look again.

I used Napster to start off with, then that collapsed.
Kazaa worked until I put an update on it, and it scrubbed my files.

So I went to Morpheus, and loved it. Nice user friendly interface, simple methods of searching and downloading, and a good presentation.
And an internal media player.

Morpheus "preview edition update" or whatever it is called, is utter rubbish, and a step in the wrong direction big time.
No internal player.
Incredibly hard to connect to, and even when you do, no downloads ever connect for me.
Sorting and naming of files done in previous edition is lost, giving the original idiotic file names that other cretins gave them.
Horrific presentation
Horrific excuse for and parody of a user interface.

What the f**k are they doing? They were on a good product, and they changed to a bad one!!! What is their reasoning?
The old Morpheus was simple, yet effective, like Google.
It seems the folks down at Music City have forgotten one of the fundamentals of business - when you are on a good thing, stick to it, and don't bugger it up.

How do you plan on takign over the world when you don't know what's up with Morpheus and Kazaa?!?! :D

O.K., he's the info: Kazaa blames Morpheus for not paying their bills so they ran a system update that blocked all Morpheus users. Morpheus says that they didn't have a problem with billing and that Kazaa is an unreliable business partner. Morpheus rushed out a product in a few days to keep as many customers as they could...they did the best they could and ask their users to stick with them until they can complete the new Morpheus...hence the name Preview Edition. It doesn't have all the features of the full version.

My take: Morpheus didn't pay their bill as they havent said that they will be suing Kazaa for making it so Morpheus users cannot access the Kazaa network. Also when I went to the Morpheus chat room I asked what is going on with Kazaa and I got kicked immediately....makes me think that Morpheus is trying to hide something.

Firstly, knowledge of music exchanges is not something that is essential for the task of tyrancy, dictatorship, nor fuhrership.

So let me get this straight: Because someone else totally unconnected to me f**ked something up, I am being penalised by someone else totally unconnected to me. Very nice. Not.
Blocked for being a Morpheus user. How petty, pathetic and downright insulting. I am going to have to have a chat about these Kazaa people next time I have lunch with Tony Soprano...

Is there a solution for the individual user, or does one just remain a pawn to be abused as some computer executives see fit? Is there another music and file exchange program that works simply? Is there a way around this Kazaa action?

I just uninstalled it this evening. In it's current form,it is totally useless to me :(

Well ,i used about the same order as Simon in file-sharing programs ,and yes the new version sucks.

Anyway ,anybody here tried LimeWire yet? I think its a very good program ,simple ,robust ,fast ,stable ,... .Although it hasn't such a big volume ,but it's just a easy to use program.

LimeWire, I might have a look at that.

There was something advertised on the Kazaa website - m2k, a small update that allows Morpheus users to employ their details and stuff at Kazaa. What the hidden side effects are, I know not.
All I want is some simple file download system to grab music, and when I get my DSL link next month, videos. And perhaps some images, but I have found far better specialist sources for my interest areas.
Getting hard to find AD&D documents is nice too.

But, for the immediate future, i remain out of the file exchange loop.
(And Morpheus shutting down the old version does p1ss me off quite a bit, as I had four downloads almost finished, including an extremely rare number. )

Simon, I don't know how Kazaa was when you used it, but after Morpheus was shut down I switched to Kazaa and it's actually just the same. I think you should give it a try again...

Everybody should try Limewire. It's Java-based, so it will run on virtually any operating system. It does have the ability to filter based on media and has the ability to download from multiple hosts at once. Best of all, it's free and Open-Source. Check it out.

I switched to Kazaa a couple of weeks ago after the horrible "Preview Edition" came out...It's a lot faster than even the old Morpheus (at least on my connection). Don't know about the spyware though. My friend told me about that but I don't know how to stop it...Matrix, can you give me some info about the program you use to stop it? Thanks.

Tsk. Now I remember why going back to Kazaa was not a workable option: Reinstalled the version off their website, and after running it, go a nice message informing me that it had performed an illegal operation and must be shut down. Happens every time.

And download.net made me register with them before I could even download this most useless item. Well, that was a waste of an hour, and one of those spyware programs may still be sticking aboot... I know not.

Will have to try LimeWire as a last resort. Dead list so far: (ie: does not work): Kazaa, Morpheus P1ssweak Edition Update, bearshare. :(

www.lavasoft.com <-to remove spyware
www.neo-modus.com <- Another file sharing program. Not very good for music, but good for big files like Star Trek Enterprise Episodes and other TV shows, plus games, and yes music is on their but this program requires more time spent to find the items you want. I know it isn't as easy as Morph/Kaz but you are getting the stuff for free so stop complaining! Oh, and finding rare stuff like old AD&D stuff, good luck, this type of file sharing is not made for that, but you could find something if you are lucky.

I have heard reports that the old Morpheus now works with Kazaa. Well, certain versions of the old Morpheus, meaning not the latest version of the old Morpheus. I would do a search on Morpheus on www.google.com if you really want to find out which, that is how I found it accidently.

Hmm. The Java thing on LimeWire causes nice illegal operation messages, so that is a dead end. All that did was put a lot of advertising on my desktop, which caused me to waste two or three seconds trashing the lot.
The DirectConnect thing also just would not connect, nor allow one to search. Alas.
It seems I will have to give up on filesharing and computers, and go to bed for the rest of my life. >sigh<

I say WinMX is the best file-sharing app out there: www.winmx.com I can find almost any file, MP3s, document, apps, etc. and is very efficient... only prob I can find is that sometimes you have to wait in queue to d/l, kinda like Fileplanet:mad:
